“Ya know I hve rev’d counseling before and DID NOT ENJOY IT, but with David I can open up sptill th beans and he LISTENS, which a lot of counselors don’t do. Hee is the difference David enjoys helping ppl so I don’t feel it’s about a pay check verses, kindness, listening, giving proper instruction and just helping other understand they aren’t just a POS. So if i ws his supervisor I wouldn’t want to loose him. So that is the difference from a caring loving counselor verses one just there for a pay check. He visit I look forward to, he’s there on time and that’s awsome. I wish he’d moving back to Hawaii. If you wantto now more, send me a request. I would follow David wherever he goes. ”

Getting to know David Nabea

Before moving to Tennessee, where he and his family now reside and operate from, David lived on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, for fifteen years. Prior to this, he engaged in Christian ministry in various forms and owned and ran a private girls' high school where he felt highly fulfilled not only educating but mentoring and empowering the next generation. Having experienced trauma in childhood, he was always curious about human behavior, which led him to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa. There, he completed his Bachelor's degree at the Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work and was admitted to the accelerated Master's program in Clinical Social Work due to his excellent performance. After graduating, he wanted to continue working with students as he had done in his home country and applied to work at McKinley High School as a Behavioral Health Specialist. Not long after, he was hired permanently by the Department of Education in the Leeward District and assigned to Waianae High School in the same position. David later transitioned to work as the Waianae Complex Area Social Worker, collaborating with several schools and school principals. During this time, he pioneered key statewide initiatives, including the Attendance Review Council (ARC), which became an integral part of Hawaii's Department of Education's Attendance Tiers of Intervention. His passion for education at a macro level led him to form close ties with key education proponents such as former Lieutenant Governor Duke Aiona, who became chair of the ARC, and former minority leader City Councilwoman Andria Tupola, who continues to help lead the initiative. David also inspired and pioneered a statewide social workers' movement dubbed the Student Attendance Taskforce (SAT), a legislative taskforce that investigated strategic and efficacious attendance laws.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I walk the sacred tension between healing and building, between not knowing and becoming. I am a student and a steward — of wisdom, of people’s stories, and of God’s grace. My purpose is to help others attain wholeness — mind, body, and soul — and awaken to a life of tranquility, truth, and purpose. Not a perfect life, but a present one. Not just success, but alignment. I believe vulnerability is strength, humility is wisdom, and the journey matters just as much as the destination. I do not know as I ought — and that’s where my transformation begins. I build spaces where people can grow — emotionally, spiritually, and professionally — and I do so with love, clarity, and courage. All of it, for the glory of God and the good of others. I specialize in couples counseling and infidelity recovery

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is rooted in compassionate, non-judgmental listening, where you can feel seen without pressure. I blend evidence-based tools with insight-driven conversation, always tuning into your unique way of processing—because no two people are exactly alike. I won't push something that doesn't fit. Instead, we’ll co-create a path that actually makes sense for you. Therapy with me is thoughtful, flexible, and—dare I say—sometimes even a little fun.

This was my first time talking to a professional and I thought that since he talks to many people, it wasn’t going to be personable. He made me feel like I was talking to someone whom I knew for years! The vibe was good, the conversation was comfortable and I look forward to more sessions!

I enjoyed my visits with David. He was always very insightful and I felt safe. I always came out of our discussions happy and that there was light at the end of a stormy tunnel no matter what the situation I was in. David is by far the best therapist I've ever had! His wisdom and empathy was such a blessing in some really dark times. Really made an effort to understand all sides and move me in the right direction. He is also 'faith based' which was a #1 for me. Thank you David for a better outlook on my situation and on life!
