Getting to know David Rachman

*Please Expect a Phone Call from our Office - Resilience Therapy - to confirm your scheduled appointment request.* You're the one people count on. The fixer, the planner, the one who has it handled, so sitting in a therapist's chair can feel a little backwards. A lot of my clients weren't sure therapy was for them, or weren't sure I'd be the right fit. What I hear most often once we begin is that it finally felt okay to stop performing. Here's part of why: I don't do vague. I bring a background in social work and applied neuroscience, so we talk about what you're feeling and what's actually happening in your brain and body underneath it. You don't have to arrive polished. You just have to show up.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Most people come to me hoping to work through adddiction, trauma, grief, or a nagging sense that something's off they can't quite name. I'm direct and practical. You'll leave with real things to try, not just things to sit and think about. A lot of my clients are under serious career pressure, navigating the legal system, or moving through a major life change. And if faith or cultural identity is part of your story, including a Jewish background and the family expectations that can come with it, that's familiar ground for me.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My first job is making it safe enough for you to say the real thing, not the version you think a therapist wants to hear. That takes time, and I won't rush it. Early on, we're really just getting your story straight. After that, I get active. I'll ask direct questions, tell you honestly what I notice, and help you build tools that actually show up in your daily life, not just in the room.
