Getting to know David Redbord

Do you have a sense that your life could be more honest, connected, or alive, but keep running into the same walls? I work with people who are ready to look closely at what’s not working and willing to be challenged toward something better. If you’ve been stuck in self-protection, hard relationship patterns, or ways of coping that no longer fit, therapy can help you understand what’s underneath and create real movement. I offer a space that is compassionate, direct, and growth-oriented. I’ll meet you with care, but I’ll also help you notice where fear, avoidance, or old beliefs may be shaping your life. Using mindfulness, emotional awareness, and relational depth, we’ll work toward greater clarity, freedom, and self-trust. If you’re ready to do more than talk around the problem, this work can help you move through it. Book a free 60-minute session to get a feel for what working together might look like, and send me a message through this page to take the first step.

What should a new client know about working with you?

How we’ll start • Free first session (60 minutes): a fit check to clarify what’s going on, what you want, and whether my approach matches your needs. • Quick pre-screen: before booking, I’ll confirm out-of-pocket payment works for you and that your goals are in my scope. If not, I’ll offer referrals. My style • Warm and direct—I’ll meet you with care and won’t waste your time. • Structured but flexible—clear goals, progress tracking, and adjustments as life happens. • Trauma-informed and practical—insight plus tools you can use between sessions. What we’ll do • Map patterns in your body, thoughts, and relationships so we treat root causes, not just symptoms. • Calm the nervous system so anxiety, shutdown, or anger stop running the show. • Build skills for boundaries, communication, and emotional regulation. • Turn insight into action with simple experiments between sessions. Methods I draw from Mindfulness, somatic and attachment work, IFS-informed parts work, and CBT. Spirituality is welcome if it matters to you—never required. LGBTQ+ affirming and culturally sensitive. Session rhythm • Most new clients start weekly; we space out as skills stick. • Sessions are 50–55 minutes, with one small, doable practice to take with you. • Light check-ins between sessions may be offered for accountability when helpful. Fit matters Clients who do well here want honest feedback, clear structure, and practical tools. Many are high-functioning yet stuck in anxiety, burnout, or repeating conflicts. Individuals and partners welcome. Boundaries and safety I’m not a crisis provider. If you need urgent or specialized care, I’ll help you find the right resource. We’ll review confidentiality limits on day one. Fees and payment Private-pay practice. We’ll confirm payment before scheduling. If you use benefits, I can provide documentation for out-of-network reimbursement upon request. Next step Request your free first session on this profile. We’ll get clear, get grounded, and start

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Here’s how I help when anxiety, burnout, conflict, or old pain keep running the show. We start by building four skills—one at a time: Emotional awareness You’ll learn to notice and name what you feel in real time. This lowers overwhelm and cuts through “I don’t know what’s wrong.” It helps with anxiety, anger, people-pleasing, and going numb. Body awareness We track simple body signals—breath, tension, stomach knots, jaw clench—so you can catch stress early and steady your system. This helps with panic, shutdowns, and sleep. Presence You’ll practice short pauses that create space between trigger and reaction. That space is where better choices, clearer boundaries, and calmer conversations happen. Compassion We swap harsh self-talk for a kinder inner voice. This reduces shame, lightens depression, and makes change stick. As we're building those skills, we go to the roots—gently and safely. I’ll guide you through practical exercises to work with old hurts that still affect you today. We won’t relive everything. We’ll complete what’s unfinished so it stops spilling into your relationships, work, and self-worth. We’ll also map your patterns and barriers: the loops you keep getting pulled into, the stories that keep you stuck, the habits that block connection. Together we’ll design small experiments between sessions—clear, doable steps—to create different results. If it’s useful, we’ll use a simple personality map (the Enneagram) to understand your common traps and what growth looks like for your style. It’s a compass, not a box. This work is practical and steady: Tools to calm anxiety, anger, and overwhelm Better boundaries and clearer communication Less reactivity, more choice in hard moments More energy for what matters, fewer flare-ups and shutdowns What it feels like to work with me: warm, direct, and structured without being rigid. We’ll set goals in plain language, keep track of what’s improving, and adjust as life happens. You’ll leave most sessions

David has been incredibly kind and patient. I am glad I made the leap to come.
David is exceptional at what he does. His knowledge is profound.

David is great. Really appreciate the tools he brings into therapy. His therapeutic stance is direct yet gentle. You can tell he really meets you from a place of unconditional positive regard. I’ve been working with him for about a year and recommend him every time a friend tells me they are looking for a new therapist.
David has been great to work with. When I first started working with him I couldn’t answer two very basic questions, “how am I feeling” and “what do I want.” I was trapped in a “nice guy loop” that wasn’t productive or healthy for myself or those that I love. I greatly appreciate his approach when the conversation is around an interpersonal relationship or interaction, he listens and validates but is also aware that there is someone else involved who has their own thoughts, feelings, and motivations. So it isn’t just a listen to my problem session but how can we solve that problem. I know that I have more work to do and I am grateful that I get to have his guidance along the way.
I would highly recommend David as a therapist. He does a great job creating a safe space to work out your issues with courage and mutual respect. The techniques David uses in his practice have been transformative and impactful, while his empathetic and compassionate approach dull the edges the self-reflection process. He has a very grounded approach which means that we get to deal with the real, daily issues and not get caught up in distractions.
As my first therapy session ever David made me feel very comfortable and at ease within minutes. Highly knowledgeable and a great teacher he made sure to keep things moving in order for me to get the most out of each session. Great style of therapy that really worked for me - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
David is a great therapist. He is very easy to talk to and create a safe space to discuss your issues. He has been a great help to me as I deal with personal issues and has been a great mentor as I grow and learn about myself.
