Psychotherapist
CA
Dawn Herring, LMFT I help individuals work through the "sucker punches" of life, including difficult transitions, loss, illness, betrayal, grief, and other traumatic events. These experiences can lead to circular thinking that is exhausting and unproductive. Together, we set treatment goals to "reboot" purpose, meaning, and joy in life. My approach My therapeutic approach is client-centered and collaborative. I am certified in EMDR and find this method especially helpful in reprocessing the sucker punches of life to improve functioning in all areas, including relationships. I also use CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy when appropriate. My focus I have worked for 20 years with the military, law enforcement/first responder community, and their families, treating trauma and relationship difficulties. I address depression, anxiety, and symptoms of trauma, loss, grief, and difficult life transitions. I have also supported individuals struggling with work stress and performance anxiety. My communication style Whether in person or via telehealth, it is important to me that clients feel seen, heard, and understood. My approach is direct yet warm, collaborative, and informed. Clients often report feeling hopeful after the first session, with renewed direction and motivation. My journey to therapy I was drawn to the profession while working in the university counseling center as a student. Witnessing the providers and students, I saw the healing that ensued in a short time, even with brief support and effective therapy. Today, I remain passionate about healing. I believe we all deserve healing and that traumatic experiences do not need to keep us stuck but can be reprocessed so we remember rather than relive. Education I earned my Master's in Counseling Psychology from San Diego State University.
