Getting to know Dawn Parrott
Hi, my name is Dawn Parrott, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 14 years of experience working with diverse groups of people. I earned my Master's in Social Work from California State University, East Bay. I have primarily worked with clients in community and medical settings who needed assistance meeting their basic needs, such as housing, food, income, and medical care. I found that often my clients were also dealing with depression, anxiety, substance use, and trauma. I provided brief counseling while simultaneously delivering intensive case management services. I also have experience in management, where I supervised MSW-level social workers, social work interns, and community health outreach workers. My approach, both in working with clients and staff, has been to develop therapeutic relationships built on trust and positive expectancy-carrying hope for my clients and mentees. I have found that when I am hopeful, optimistic, and encouraging, my clients have a higher success rate. Currently, I am working toward certification as a Perinatal Mental Health counselor to support mothers and fathers experiencing pre- and postpartum challenges. I have completed 20 hours of training required to sit for the certification exam, which I plan to take within the next three months.
