ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. Telehealth, BCBS PPO & self-pay only. Sliding-scale available. Please note: I am a licensed therapist in IL and FL; I am NOT a psychologist or psychiatrist. About you.... You're a motivated adult or couple dealing with issues around trauma-related anxiety or depression, perhaps Adult ADHD. Maybe things have happened to you; maybe you do things yourself even you don't understand. But there are reasons why. Let's figure it all out together, looking at your patterns and attachment styles, and resolve it with EMDR and newer techniques, which are also fast, including simple polyvagal exercises that reduce anxiety and depression and improve relationships. You deserve empathy, the best research, and most cutting-edge, effective, quick-acting techniques, to create your own feelings of security and wellness. I treat adults and couples dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression and Adult ADHD. I'm trained in EMDR and I created a new treatment for depression and trauma under study at Northwestern University, where I received my master's degree, and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. I also teach short, easy exercises to calm the nervous system, regulate emotions, and improve relationships. I offer Telehealth only, and I accept BCBS PPO and self-pay only. Sliding-scale available. You want to be heard, seen, validated... and helped. You want someone trained in the most advanced techniques and someone who also can just be present for you, connect with you. What should a new client know about working with you?

Initially, you should expect me to send you an electronic confirmation that I received your booking request, followed by a phone call or email. In that communication, I will learn a little about you, tell you about my approach to counseling (which is also described below), and explain next steps (consent forms, basic demographic info, and credit card info entered through a secure portal). I approach counseling from a very emotion-focused/empathic direction, combined with a strong emphasis on neuroscience. In your first session, I will learn more about you. In either the first or second session, I will teach you some psychoeducation, basic neuroscience, and two of the little exercises I provide throughout the course of therapy. You can do these various exercises throughout the day, to calm your nervous system, regulate your emotions, and in many cases, even improve sleep and well-being. The exercises are very short, taking only a few seconds, or in one case, a minute--and most of them are done without anyone even knowing. Medium-term, we will work together to look at the patterns in your life and attachment style. And we may incorporate EMDR or RELEASE, which are neural-based, short-term treatments for trauma, depression, anxiety and many other disorders. RELEASE is my creation, and it is currently under active experiments at the University of Wisconsin. It is also currently under study at Northwestern University, my alma mater, where I graduated summa cum laude, with highest honor and academic distinction.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As stated above, my medium-term approach is to teach numerous, easy exercises to slow and relax the nervous system, regulate emotions, and improve well-being, exercises people will not know you are doing, even when you do them while together. These exercises often involve the eyes and the facial muscles. Many people do not realize that the retinas and optic nerves are made entirely of brain tissue / neurons, which communicate directly with countless areas in the brain. Just like this fact, I will share other pieces of relevant, fascinating, helpful information about psychology and neuroscience. Then, also medium-term, I may use an eye-based treatment, EMDR and / or RELEASE, which I created and am testing at major universities. These two therapies are neural-based, short-term (fast) treatments for PTSD, depression, anxiety, and many other disorders. In each session, we will lean into your emotions and see if there are certain emotions you are suppressing. If so, we will address that. We'll also examine the body sensations you have alongside various emotions. We'll explore the patterns of your life and your attachment style. Together, all of this helps lead to new and better ways of approaching the circumstances of your life, which improves your well-being and your relationships.
