Deborah Seeger, LPC, LMFT

Psychotherapist
TX
I will bring a spirit of warmth, authenticity, and compassion to our work together-and a bit of humor from time to time as well. I became a therapist because I have personally experienced the power of counseling. You are the expert on you. My job is to walk alongside you as you explore where you've been, where you are, and where you want to go. Your story matters, and I am here to listen, support, and guide you as you unfold the chapters of your life. As a psychotherapist, my mission is to create a nurturing environment where you can freely express your thoughts, fears, hopes, and dreams. Every journey begins with the first step, and in reading this, you are on the way. Together, we can navigate the pathways of your journey, fostering understanding, resilience, and personal growth. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Latinx Concentration from the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas. I often describe my career as ?eclectic.? My undergraduate degree is in accounting, and I've worked as an auditor, comptroller, finance director, and CFO. I've also worked in human resources, government relations, fundraising, and organizational development consulting. Once I had the idea to become a psychotherapist, the idea would not let go of me. Here I am. And I'm thrilled to be here.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My clients take the lead about where we focus each session. Based on the goal's we've set, I will always have an idea about how we might effectively spend our time together. When we begin working together, I will use relevant assessment tools that serve two purposes. First, the data helps target our work together to support efficiently moving toward your goals. Second, we can use the tool again in the future to measure progress. With individuals, I use an integrated approach. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy approach that helps individuals process traumatic memories and other distressing experiences. During EMDR therapy, you'll engage in bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or tapping, while recalling the traumatic event. This process helps your brain process the information related to the trauma and integrate it in a healthy way. The Internal Family Systems (IFS) model is increasingly recognized as an evidence-based psychotherapy. IFS recognizes that the mind is composed of various "parts" or subpersonalities, each with its own unique perspectives, feelings, and roles. These parts are not inherently "good" or "bad" but rather take on different roles, often as a result of life experiences. At the core of every individual is the "Self," a compassionate, wise, and healing presence. The basic work of IFS is to foster healthy and effective relationships among these parts and with Self. I offer a compassionate and collaborative approach to couples and family therapy, drawing on evidence-based methods like the Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Discernment Counseling.
