Getting to know DeBree Robinson

When I wrote my personal essay for my MSW, I realized social work had always surrounded me. I remember helping elderly neighbors, teaching friends how to count money, and researching services for my autistic brother. There were so many events during those times and many more yet to come. I always desired to help people. My brother’s diagnosis widened my eyes to my calling. However, life had other plans for me, and I became a secretary. As a secretary, I found myself working in the mental health arena, including the areas of AIDS research, mental health, addiction services, and college counseling. Social work is my second career, but it has always been my first passion. I pull from both my personal and professional experiences, and allow these experiences to teach and mold me.
