Getting to know Deirdre Arato

Deirdre Arato is a Licensed Professional Counselor, license number 37PC01078400. She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Rider University and a Bachelor’s degree from St. Francis College. If you are struggling with anxiety, trauma, PTSD, panic attacks, depression, chronic stress, or emotional overwhelm, you are not alone. I am a licensed trauma therapist specializing in trauma-informed therapy, somatic therapy, EMDR-informed approaches, nervous system regulation, and anxiety treatment for adults and teens in New Jersey, Florida, and South Carolina. I help clients heal from childhood trauma, relationship trauma, emotional abuse, attachment wounds, and chronic anxiety patterns that keep them stuck in survival mode. Many clients come to therapy feeling emotionally exhausted, disconnected, overwhelmed, overthinking constantly, or trapped in cycles of fear, people-pleasing, panic, or low self-worth. My approach combines neuroscience, mind-body healing, and evidence-based therapy to help clients regulate the nervous system, process unresolved trauma, and create lasting emotional change. Treatment focuses on helping clients understand the root causes of anxiety, depression, PTSD symptoms, emotional triggers, and relationship struggles—not just managing symptoms temporarily. I specialize in anxiety disorders, panic attacks, trauma/PTSD, depression, emotional dysregulation, stress management, life transitions, self-esteem issues, and relationship challenges. I provide virtual therapy in a compassionate, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients can safely process emotions, build coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and reconnect with themselves. If you are looking for a therapist specializing in trauma therapy, somatic therapy, anxiety treatment, PTSD treatment, or depression counseling, I offer personalized care focused on deep healing, empowerment, and long-term wellness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

If you’re considering therapy, you deserve more than just a place to vent—you deserve a space where real healing happens. I specialize in trauma therapy, anxiety, PTSD, depression, nervous system regulation, and emotional healing for adults, teens, and LGBTQ+ clients in New Jersey, Florida, and South Carolina. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling emotionally exhausted, stuck in survival mode, overwhelmed by overthinking, relationship patterns, panic, low self-worth, or the lasting effects of childhood trauma and toxic relationships. My approach is warm, direct, compassionate, and deeply trauma-informed. I combine neuroscience, somatic therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, attachment work, and nervous system healing to help clients understand not only what they feel—but why they feel it. Therapy with me is not about judgment or quick fixes. It’s about helping you reconnect to yourself, regulate your emotions, heal trauma at the root, and create lasting change in your life and relationships. Clients often tell me they finally feel seen, understood, and safe enough to be themselves in our work together. I believe symptoms like anxiety, emotional reactivity, people-pleasing, dissociation, perfectionism, or relationship struggles are not signs that you are broken—they are signs your nervous system adapted to survive. Healing is possible when the mind and body begin working together instead of against each other. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, burnout, relationship stress, life transitions, gender identity exploration, or feeling disconnected from yourself, therapy can help you move from survival into clarity, confidence, emotional balance, and self-trust. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, empowered, emotionally regulated, and aligned with the life you truly want to live.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Many people come to therapy feeling exhausted from constantly overthinking, emotionally overwhelmed, anxious, stuck in unhealthy relationship patterns, or feeling like they’re surviving life instead of actually living it. My process is not just about talking week after week with no real change. Therapy with me is about helping you understand why your mind, body, emotions, and relationships react the way they do so healing becomes deeper, more lasting, and more empowering. In our sessions, we look beyond surface symptoms like anxiety, panic attacks, depression, low self-worth, emotional reactivity, people-pleasing, or relationship struggles. I help clients understand the neuroscience of trauma, the nervous system, attachment wounds, and the unconscious survival patterns that shape automatic thoughts, behaviors, emotional triggers, and even physical symptoms. Many clients begin realizing that what they thought was “wrong” with them was actually a nervous system stuck in protection and survival mode. Sessions are conversational, insightful, and deeply personalized. I integrate trauma-informed therapy, somatic therapy, nervous system regulation, mindfulness, emotional processing, and practical coping strategies to help clients reconnect with themselves—not just manage symptoms temporarily. We work on identifying triggers, understanding emotional patterns, rebuilding self-trust, regulating the nervous system, and shifting the subconscious beliefs created through trauma and life experiences. Clients often tell me therapy feels different because they finally feel understood on a deeper level rather than judged or pathologized. My goal is to help you stop identifying with the trauma, anxiety, or survival version of yourself and start reconnecting with who you truly are underneath it all.

Deirdre is an incredible voice of reason and compassion. She has been instrumental in my continued progress and I cannot recommend her services enough.
Deirdre has been in my life for a little while now, and the impact she has made on my healing, growth, and sense of self has been truly life-changing. From the beginning, she created a space where I felt safe, held, understood, and deeply seen in a way I had not experienced before. Together, we have untangled life — the hard parts, the messy parts, and the parts I didn’t always have words for — with honesty, compassion, and grace. Deirdre has this rare gift of being both deeply down-to-earth and spiritually connected. She is grounding, intuitive, real, and incredibly present. The healing I have experienced since working with her is something I will forever be grateful for. She doesn’t just listen — she holds space in a way that allows you to feel safe enough to grow, reflect, and come home to yourself. If you are looking for someone who is the real deal, someone who will make you feel seen, supported, and gently guided, please stop looking. Deirdre is exactly where you want to be.

Deirdre is an outstanding therapist. She attentively listens, provides feedback and offers support when needed. Her communication style is direct and to the point all while providing empathy. We review progress that has been made and continue to dive deeper into the issues I'm working all while providing tools for me to take away from each session.
So blessed to have found Deirdre. Though I have seen many therapists throughout the years she was able to help me truly make a difference in my healing journey in just a few short sessions. She is open, understanding and supportive.
