Psychotherapist
MD
I believe therapy should be a space where people feel safe to be honest about what they are carrying while also feeling supported to create meaningful change. Many of the clients I work with appear strong and successful on the outside but feel overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected internally. They may be balancing careers, relationships, and personal responsibilities while struggling with self-doubt, stress, or the effects of past experiences. My work focuses on helping clients understand the patterns that shape how they think, feel, and respond to challenges. Together we explore beliefs, experiences, and relationship dynamics that may contribute to anxiety, depression, burnout, or difficulty setting boundaries. I use a compassionate, collaborative approach that combines evidence-based strategies with a strengths-based and trauma-informed perspective. My goal is to help clients gain insight, develop practical tools, and build confidence so they can move through life with greater clarity and emotional balance.

Getting to know DeLandria Ankrah

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is a collaborative and supportive experience where you can show up as your full self without judgment. I create a space where clients feel seen, heard, and understood while also being gently challenged to grow. My goal is to help you move beyond simply managing symptoms and begin understanding the deeper patterns that shape your thoughts, emotions, and relationships. Many of the clients I work with are high-achieving individuals who appear successful on the outside but feel overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected internally. They may struggle with self-doubt, people-pleasing, relationship challenges, or the lingering effects of past experiences. Together, we explore how these patterns developed and identify healthier ways to respond to stress, emotions, and life transitions. My approach is both compassionate and practical. I believe therapy should provide insight as well as real tools you can use in everyday life. Clients often leave sessions with new perspectives, strategies for regulating emotions, and concrete steps they can apply between sessions. I integrate several evidence-based approaches depending on each client’s needs, including cognitive behavioral strategies, trauma-informed care, and strengths-based therapy. I also pay attention to identity, culture, and life context, because these factors often shape how we experience stress, relationships, and personal growth. Above all, therapy with me is a place to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with yourself. My hope is that clients leave feeling more confident in their voice, more aligned with their values, and more equipped to navigate life’s challenges.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session focuses on getting to know you and understanding what brings you to therapy. We will talk about your current concerns, your personal history, and what you hope to gain from our work together. This conversation helps me understand your experiences and begin identifying the patterns that may be contributing to stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, or other concerns. From there, we collaborate to establish clear therapy goals that feel meaningful and achievable for you. Some clients want help managing anxiety or depression, others want to improve relationships, build confidence, or process past experiences. Your goals help guide the direction of our sessions. In ongoing sessions, we explore the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors connected to your experiences. I help clients identify patterns that may be keeping them stuck, such as negative self-talk, avoidance, people-pleasing, or difficulty setting boundaries. Together, we work to build healthier coping strategies, emotional awareness, and more balanced ways of responding to challenges. Sessions typically include a combination of reflection, skill building, and practical strategies. We may explore how past experiences influence current reactions, practice reframing unhelpful thought patterns, or develop tools for managing stress and emotional overwhelm. Many clients also find value in learning ways to improve communication, build boundaries, and strengthen their sense of self. Therapy is a gradual process, and progress often happens through small, consistent shifts over time. My role is to guide, support, and challenge you in a way that helps you build insight, resilience, and confidence as you move toward the life you want.
