Getting to know Denise Dougherty

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois with a Master’s in Clinical Psychology. I have over 10 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in both individual and group settings. The clients I have worked with have struggled with eating disorders, self-injury, anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. One size does not fit all. No single approach is the right one for every person, which is why I use a range of treatment modalities, when working with my clients. I meet my client where they are at. We work together on developing healthy coping skills and challenging uncomfortable thoughts to alleviate the stress brought on by life and our own minds. In addition, I collaborate with clients to create short-term and long-term goals that motivate and establish a strong sense of self. I specialize in eating disorders, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, self-injury, and child therapy. My approach to counseling combines Client-Centered, Goal-Oriented, Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), Positive psychology, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT), and other skills-based techniques. If a client prefers, I can also integrate Christian counseling approaches. If you are feeling alone or feeling stuck; like things will never get better, or you just want to talk it out, reach out to me. I am here to help and let you feel heard and validated. I have 2 in-person locations (Naperville & Schaumburg), and I also meet through Zoom. There is always hope!
