Denise Montano, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
My journey into mental health began with a transformative experience during my time at UC Santa Cruz in 2010. While volunteering at an all-girls orphanage in Costa Rica, I witnessed the resilience of young girls who had endured abuse. This experience inspired me to dedicate my career to being a source of support and healing for individuals navigating challenges. My first professional role working with foster youth solidified my passion for helping others rebuild their lives and find hope. I specialize in working with adolescents, young adults, middle-aged adults, individuals, and families. My focus areas include adolescent therapy, anxiety, and depression. I tailor each session to your unique needs, starting with psychoeducation and discussing your expectations of therapy. Together, we’ll set goals based on your symptoms and work toward meaningful change. I often assign homework to help you apply what we’ve worked on in session, emphasizing that change takes effort—but you won’t be alone in the process. My approach is empathetic yet direct. I want you to feel welcomed and cared for, and I encourage open communication about your experience in therapy. I don’t have a magic wand, but I’ll walk alongside you, providing tools and support as you work toward your goals. Outside of work, I’m a soccer mom and love being hands-on with my kids. I’m also very artsy, enjoy reading, and value creativity and connection in all areas of life.
