Getting to know Denise Suncin

As a therapist practicing in New York, New Jersey, and Texas, I bring a unique perspective as a first-generation Latinx, bisexual, neurodivergent woman. A native New Yorker, I understand the complexities of navigating multiple identities and mental health challenges. Like many, I have walked my own path of recovery with support from a therapist and psychiatrist, and I bring that lived experience to my practice, along with compassion and empathy for each client. I earned my Master's in Social Work from Hunter College at the City University of New York, equipping me to support diverse clients with evidence-based and holistic approaches. My goal as a therapist is to be your biggest cheerleader and confidant. I am committed to meeting you where you are, creating a judgment-free space to explore your journey toward healing and growth. I take an open-minded and holistic approach, offering various therapeutic modalities that align with your needs, preferences, and goals. Together, we'll discover what works for you and collaborate on strategies supporting your long-term well-being. I specialize in working with individuals open to exploring different paths toward healing, particularly those navigating neurodivergent behaviors, addiction, mental health challenges, LGBTQIA+ identities, open/nonmonogamous relationships, familial or friendship discord, and trauma. I have experience with diverse populations, including children on the autism spectrum, individuals recovering from addiction, LGBTQIA+ communities, and men reintegrating after incarceration. I believe healing is not one-size-fits-all, and I'm here to support you as you find what works best-without judgment and with the respect and care you deserve. If you're seeking a therapist who sees you as a whole person and is ready to walk with you on your unique path, I would be honored to work with you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’m not your most conventional therapist, and that’s something I’m proud of. My approach is built on honesty, openness, and a genuine desire to create a supportive, empathetic space for each client. I believe that therapy should be a safe and comfortable environment where you feel heard, understood, and respected, and I do my best to foster that kind of relationship with every person I work with. I don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach to healing. For me, progress is entirely determined by you. There’s no set timeline, no predefined expectations—just a shared hope for you to grow into a place where you feel healthier, happier, and more centered. I recognize that each person’s journey is unique, and I’m here to walk with you at your pace, supporting you in whatever way works best for you. Ultimately, my goal is to provide a space where you can explore, reflect, and develop in your own time, without pressure or judgment. Whether you’re facing a specific challenge or simply looking to improve your overall well-being, I’m here to support you as you take the steps toward becoming your best self.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I take an individualistic, person-centered approach to therapy because I truly believe that each person is unique, even if they share similar experiences or challenges. My focus is always on tailoring our work to your specific needs, with the intention of helping you achieve your personal goals. Every step we take together will be designed to fit your vision of where you want to be, and we'll explore the most effective ways to get there. Our journey will be collaborative. We’ll take the time to get to know each other, understanding what works best for you and how I can support you in a way that feels authentic and meaningful. I approach therapy from a humanistic perspective, emphasizing acceptance, empathy, and a deep respect for your individuality. Above all, my goal is for you to feel truly heard, cared for, and understood throughout our work together. In therapy, you should feel safe to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. I am here to create that space for you, so you can make meaningful progress at your own pace, with the support and guidance you deserve.

We all know how hard it is to find a therapist that fits you the best, and I found mine! Denise is very good at balancing active listening and exploring solutions.
Denise is an incredible provider and an absolutely amazing person. She has helped me learn and grow more than I could have imagined. I am grateful to have found such a great provider.
Denise has been such a wonderful addition to my life. She’s incredibly patient, kind, understanding, and knowledgable in her field. Having Denise on your side is truly a blessing!
I've been seeing Denise for a while now, and I can't recommend her enough. She is incredibly caring and always makes me feel heard and understood. What I appreciate most is her non-judgmental approach which creates a safe space for me to express myself freely. Denise’s support has made a huge difference in my life. She is an amazing practitioner!
Denise is down to earth and empathetic, without judgement. I have always had an issue finding someone who treated me like a real person rather than just a “patient”. Denise does that, and tells it like it is, which I need. Very easy to talk to, and gets to the heart of the matter. She has set the bar for me.
My journey with therapy is very new and Denise has been an amazing source of guidance along the way. When I sought out a therapist, I wanted someone that would resonate with my life experiences and upbringing whilst giving me honesty and homework to better myself and my life. With Denise, I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made. Her objective perspective has helped me understand situations more broadly and navigate my life without feeling overwhelmed.
I love having Denise as my therapist. She’s super kind, understanding, and supportive. I feel so seen by her. I honestly had no hope when it came to therapy because of past experiences so I took a chance, and once I read her Zocdoc profile, I knew she was going to be awesome!!
Denise is amazing at what she does. As a patient you can feel her care and concern for you. She is able to foster such a safe environment where I feel comfortable sharing everything with her.
Denise does a good job listening and making you feel heard. No matter your emotional state or what you’re going through she will be there to help bring you back down to earth and work out the problem!
I have been seeing Denise for some time now and I have nothing but excellent things to say. This has been my first experience with seeing a therapist and there was a hesitation at first but she has allowed me to feel comfortable through the process. Denise has the type of personality where you feel as if you’re talking to a long time friend, I’ve never felt judged or like she has dismissed my feelings. Anyone who is trying therapy for the first time will be very satisfied with her work!
I was on the fence about therapy before Denise. I had previous experience that wasn’t the greatest. But after reading her profile, I knew that she was the right person to go to. She is super kind, supportive, and understanding. These are things that are super important, when going to therapy. I feel like I found my voice due to her support and help.
This is the best Therapist I have ever had. Is always on time, and when she can’t be, makes it known immediately and allows me to text her if needed. I am able to be as open as possible with her and I never feel like I have to hold back on anything I say. Best psychologist, has helped me create a new me that I needed.
I enjoy sessions with her because she listens well, acknowledges things, and brings both sides to life. I have seen a big self improvement the last few months, and look forward to the future!
Denise is a reflective, holistic practitioner!!
Denise’s specific therapy style was a fit for me since day one. I have seen my life completely changed and turned around since I started having my therapy sessions with her. She has helped me to navigate very difficult situations this year. Breakups, family, health and finances. She listens and is very understanding as well as accommodating when it comes to appointment times. If you are a looking for a versatile therapist who is patient but does not hesitate to challenge you, she is the girl for the job. -Alex
I’ve had a tough journey trying to find a therapist that I can feel comfortable with. Dense has gone above and beyond for me. I feel like I am finally on the path I belong on with all the tools at my disposal. She’s caring and patient with her care.
One of the best therapists Ive had, I always feel welcomed and eased into sessions! It’s nice to be able to talk to someone who has a good sense of humor but can be serious when need be. Denise always comes from a place of understanding above all and I never feel judged.
