Getting to know Denise Wells
Hello! My name is Denise and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from Indiana. I believe that my personal and professional experience has provided me with the tools to help inspire and motivate individuals to become the best versions of themselves. I am also a firm believer that it is never too late to achieve your goals! As a high school dropout, my daughter had a home visitor/teacher who taught me the importance of goals and when she learned I was a high school dropout, she encouraged me to get my GED. She honestly believed in me more than I believed in myself! From there, I knew I wanted to help people like Miss Cathy helped me, She encouraged me to apply for a job where she worked. That is when I had to go to college. I earned an Associate in Early Childhood Education in 2004 and Associate in Human Services in 2007 from Ivy Tech State College. I went to IPFW for my Bachelor in Human Services, which I earned in 2011. I then attended IUPUI and graduated with my Master in Social Work degree in June,2014. Throughout my 15 years of working for Head Start, I worked in a variety of positions but I loved working with the families and “challenging children.” I have worked with parents on parenting, helping children through divorce, helping children who have been removed from their home, working with parents with addiction. I also worked as a home based therapist primarily working with families when Dept of Child Services have removed the children from the home. I also worked as a staff therapist at the local Community Mental Health Center where I worked with individuals and families across the entire lifespan. After I became licensed, I worked primarily with those on Medicare (65+ and/or disabled). I really enjoy working with this population as well. Often times, when individuals experience retirement, depression, anxiety and trauma from earlier life experiences will surface.
