Derrick D'Abreau, LICSW

Psychotherapist
WA
Hi there, I'm Derrick! With 8 years of clinical experience and a Washington state license, I specialize in supporting service members, veterans, and military families through the complex challenges of addiction, grief, and life transitions. Military life often brings intense stress, sacrifice, and loss, and asking for help isn’t always easy. My goal is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where healing can begin. Whether you’re coping with substance use, rebuilding after deployment, or grieving the loss of a loved one, I’m here to walk beside you with compassion, clarity, and respect. My approach My approach is person-centered, trauma-informed, and grounded in empathy. I believe that healing begins in a safe, supportive relationship where you feel truly heard and respected. I integrate evidence-based practices—including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and grief counseling—tailored to your individual needs and life experiences. Working with service members, veterans, and military families, I recognize the importance of honoring your resilience while also creating space for vulnerability. I help clients explore the underlying emotions tied to grief and addiction, identify coping strategies, rebuild trust in relationships, and find meaning in the healing process. Above all, I believe therapy should be collaborative—you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to support, guide, and walk with you as you navigate your path forward. My focus Population: Adults (18+); Specialty Groups: Service members (active duty, reserves, National Guard), Veterans, Military spouses and families. My therapeutic approach is collaborative and rooted in evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I also integrate grief counseling with addiction recovery, recognizing that unresolved grief often contributes to substance use. I work with individuals to rebuild trust.
