I'm Dr. Derrick Hassert, a licensed clinical counselor in Illinois and a licensed mental health counselor in Indiana, currently a candidate at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis. I hold a Master's in Counseling from Governors State University. My previous training includes interpersonal psychoanalytic psychotherapy through the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis and Psychology, and transference-focused psychotherapy through Columbia University's Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. My focus is on psychotherapy with individuals and couples. My approach My theoretical orientation is broadly psychoanalytic/psychodynamic, incorporating an attachment-based relational perspective. I listen with openness and respect to each individual's experience. My focus With about 10 years in clinical practice, I have gained experience addressing strong emotions such as anger, stress, anxiety, and depression-often referred to as affect regulation-as well as interpersonal and developmental trauma. I also work with effective parenting techniques, couples counseling, and support clients through life transitions like career changes, divorce, and retirement.
