Opening up to someone new can be intimidating, and opening up to your new therapist may feel the same way. When starting therapy, a person may be filled with uncertainty. I maintain transparency throughout the therapeutic process to ensure that open communication remains a central part of my client's treatment. I believe in therapy as a collaborative process between myself and my clients, where they can feel comfortable sharing their goals, and I can provide guidance and support in helping them reach these goals. The therapeutic alliance I form with my clients is my top priority, as I understand that the greatest results manifest when there is strong trust between myself and my clients. Experience: Desarie is a Licensed Master Social Worker with a Master's degree in Social Work from Hunter College, City University of New York. She has experience utilizing motivational interviewing, mindfulness, CBT techniques, and narrative therapy to guide clients through behavior change. Desarie has a wealth of experience working with children in NYC public schools to develop their social-emotional well-being. She also works with highly motivated millennials to provide a non-judgmental space for them to progress into their best selves through strengths-based approaches. Desarie's budding specializations as a therapist were influenced by her volunteer work at the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) in her undergraduate years as a Helpline Intern. Her experience there ignited her passion for guiding clients through the stages of change to help them reach their goals. What should a new client know about working with you?

At Apple Psychological, we provide a safe space where you will find competent, caring, clinicians with a variety of specialty areas who are capable of treating all age groups from children to adults across the lifespan. It is of utmost importance to us that our clients trust us and feel truly supported without judgement in the therapeutic environment. Here, at Apple Psychological, you will feel confident and comforted in your time of need as we help you to learn new skills, gain insight into yourself, strengthen your relationships, and grow as a person in a way that you may not have imagined before coming into treatment. Each client is treated as a unique individual and we set goals that reflect your concerns and wishes as you strive to move forward in your life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session is led by the client as they discuss issues that have been on their mind. We will discuss their goals and obstacles that have been holding them back from achieving their optimal potential. I will look for patterns in their thinking and identify how their mindset might be influencing their feelings and their behavior. In turn, we may identify how altering this mindset can positively change the way they function and can cause them to make improvements towards achieving their goals. We will discuss homework or tasks that I may have given the client throughout the week in order to take steps towards helping them achieve their goals in order to reach a greater level of happiness.
