“Desirae is super caring, culturally competent, nurturing, has awareness and lived experience of obstacles faced by women of color in other spaces and this has been my biggest hurdle but she does not approach it in a deficit mindset but a place of cultural wealth”

Getting to know Desirae Spignor

Hello, my name is Desirae Spignor. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Social Work from California State University, Sacramento. My therapeutic approach is eclectic, integrating my education and lived experience into my practice. My approach The goal of therapy is overall wellness and whatever that may look like for you. I create a safe space that is trauma-informed, resilience-oriented, and culturally humble for people to heal. I use an eclectic approach that incorporates the principles of DBT and ACT to support implementing wellness tools, grounding techniques, and being in the moment. My focus In my experience, trauma (historical, environmental, interpersonal, etc.) has been the root cause of most behavioral health and even some medical issues. If we work on ways to alleviate the impacts of trauma on our lives, it will directly impact our overall wellness. This is why I have spent my time as a Behavioral Health Specialist focused on learning and unlearning about trauma and how it impacts us. My communication style My great passion is creating safe spaces in which those impacted by systems and systemic oppressions can heal. I strive to empower individuals, families, and communities to find holistic wellness and strengthen relationships so they can be at peace, feel whole, and be safe. My journey to mental healthcare As you focus on clearing your generational trauma, do not forget to claim your generational strengths. Your ancestors gave you more than just wounds. – Xavier Dagba For me, this quote perfectly explains why I became a counselor and social worker. When individuals, families, and communities have been impacted by systemic oppressions, it is not uncommon for it to have a traumatic impact on their lives. I lean on my formal education and my own lived experience in the work I do. I understand that no single approach is the "right one."
