“After just an intake appointment, I am super excited to start my journey with Desiree. She’s super knowledgable about a wide array of therapy styles/types and extremely easy to open up to. I love that she made the decision to come out professionally because knowing that about her makes me feel safe and comfortable as a queer client. She does a good job of letting you get to know her a bit without taking away time for anything you want to say in session. I’m really looking forward to working with her more!”

Getting to know Desiree Richards

I'm down 175 lbs down and I believe I can help you do the same by cultivating love for yourself, love for your body, healing from any trauma, and creating a healthy relationship with food because I am an expert in this area. You are not alone. If you feel that regular therapy has not helped, you are in the right place. Talk therapy is beneficial. Experiential therapy such as those I specialize in, can improve your quality of life, help you feel true love for yourself, decrease triggers from past trauma, and allow you to establish a healthy relationship with food and your body. I utilize techniques from EMDR, DNMS (parts work), and others. Listening, authenticity, trust, laughter, and encouragement are qualities I bring to the therapeutic relationship. Clients often express that I am easy to talk to and empathetic. They also report that I help them find deep healing, not just surface level. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from The University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor’s degree from Nelson University. Reaching out is both the hardest and best step we can take for our mental health. Let’s work together to see you become the best version of yourself.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is centered on the client. I assess what may be really going on in the client's life, determine which type of treatments may be best, and then provide that treatment. The first visit is usually an assessment. The second visit is typically and opportunity for you to discuss any pressing matters that may be present. And following sessions are used to help you with whatever you are coming to therapy for. (As a clinician, I do adhere to the perspective of health at every size with clients. I also take a whole person approach to therapy, recognizing that health includes mental, emotional, and physical.) PERSONAL INTERESTS: Quality time with friends and family, adventure, traveling, exercise, personal development, spending time with my cat.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

There are three main types of sessions that I offer. Intake- This is where we identify your background, current well being, and goals for the future General- In a general session, you share a few minutes about your week, I assess how I can best serve you that day, and we work on some techniques and tools that can be helpful for you. EMDR- This is a type of therapy which requires additional training that not all therapists have. In these sessions, we go through 8 different steps to help you resolve any trauma/stress that may be impacting your level of well being.
