Destinee Alden, MA

Psychotherapist
226 7th St, Ste 103, Garden City, NY
I am a provisionally licensed mental health counselor who believes that each and every person has the potential to release old, unwanted energy and create the life they want. I work with children and adults where they can create the life that they want and I am here to work alongside them. I have acquired my masters degree in Mental Health Counseling at Adelphi University, where I had worked with adults that had wanted to let go from their past and work towards a greater version of themselves. I had worked with adolescents and teens that wanted to learn more about themselves and express themselves emotionally. The secret ingredient to treatment is finding a therapist that we connect with. Having a secure therapeutic relationship means so much to me as a therapist because I want my clients to feel safe and feel no judgment. I use my clients’ time to listen, empathize, and help guide them through solutions to whatever it is that they are going through. The way we see the world is subjective which is why I love to use dialectical behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy. We all go through situations where our emotions do not feel regulated and that’s okay! A lot of behaviors we have are unconscious and are learned through our experiences, which is where psychodynamic work comes in. We are human with human emotions and mistakes are inevitable. Through gaining awareness and self-compassion, we can achieve the goals that we make for ourselves.
