Getting to know Destinee Wells
Hi I'm Destinee!
I am a therapist who is focused on relationships. I understand that our early relationships are templates that form who we are and how we interact with others in present-day. I am curious about relationships, both past and present, and how they affect who you are and how you show up in the world. We can explore your experiences in the present day and learn how they are impacted by relationships in your past -- then work together to make the changes you want to see in your life.
I have worked with a variety of identities including different cultural and racial backgrounds, religious and non-religious backgrounds, and clients across the spectrum of sexual orientation and gender expression. I am experienced with depression and anxiety, and also has training in complex trauma, disassociation, and ADHD.
Prior to working at Sunflower Clinical Group, I have worked at Cathedral Counseling Center in Chicago, and has completed an Advanced Certificate in Self Psychology at CRPC. I have a background in fine arts which I feel enhances the creativity and curiosity with which I approach my work at Sunflower Clinical Group.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I think that our connection as therapist and client is the most important part of our foundation together. As we start meeting, it's my goal for us to get to know each other and develop familiarity and trust in our relationship.
As we get more comfortable with each other, we can learn more about your symptoms and challenges by talking about not just your experiences in present day but also experiences and patterns of the past that may be impacting the present day.
Therapy with me will not always be easy, but I strive to ensure that every interaction we have is based around safety, respect, and consent. It is my job to help you get the healing you are seeking out of your therapy experience!
What is your typical process for working with clients?
As we begin our meetings, we'll start with me asking many questions as I seek to learn more about you and the context of your family, culture, and experiences. During this introduction process, we'll also work together to develop a plan for our work to make sure that we keep our sessions heading in the direction you are seeking.
