Destiny Howell, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who approaches mental health through a holistic and compassionate lens. With training in both clinical social work and public health, I recognize that emotional well-being is influenced not only by our inner experiences but also by relationships, life circumstances, and the environments we navigate every day. My work is trauma-informed and grounded in evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing. I specialize in supporting individuals who are navigating anxiety, trauma, major life transitions, relationship challenges, and issues related to self-esteem and identity. I have a particular passion for supporting women during pregnancy, postpartum, and other important stages of life. Many of the individuals I work with are seeking to reconnect with themselves, process difficult experiences, and develop healthier patterns that support long-term emotional well-being. My goal is to create a space where clients feel heard, respected, and supported. Together we work to build insight, strengthen coping skills, and create meaningful change that supports a more balanced and fulfilling life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients often tell me they appreciate that our sessions feel both supportive and practical. My approach is collaborative and tailored to each person’s unique experiences and goals. In our work together, we focus on understanding patterns that may be contributing to stress, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm while also developing tools that help you move forward with greater clarity and confidence. Therapy is not about judgment—it is about creating a safe space where you can explore your experiences and feel supported in making meaningful changes. Whether you are navigating trauma, life transitions, pregnancy or postpartum changes, relationship challenges, or personal growth, we will work together at a pace that feels safe and empowering.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session focuses on getting to know you and understanding what brings you to therapy. We will talk about your current concerns, important life experiences, and what you hope to gain from the therapeutic process. This helps us create a clear understanding of your goals and determine the most supportive path forward. From there, our sessions focus on both insight and practical tools. I use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed techniques to help clients better understand patterns in their thoughts, emotions, and relationships. Together we work to build coping strategies, improve emotional regulation, and strengthen confidence in navigating life’s challenges. Therapy is a collaborative process, and sessions move at a pace that feels safe and supportive for you. Many clients come to address anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, or pregnancy and postpartum changes. My goal is to help you gain clarity, develop practical skills, and feel more empowered in your daily life.
