Diana Grant, LMHC

Psychotherapist
160 Howells Rd, Bay Shore, NY
I’m Diana Grant, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 20 years of experience supporting teens (13+), adults, and parents through life’s challenges. Parenting, relationships, anxiety, burnout, and major transitions can feel overwhelming, especially in a world that looks very different from the one many of us grew up in. I provide a calm, grounded space where clients can talk openly, feel understood, and begin to feel more steady and confident. My approach is warm, clear, and collaborative. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, trauma-informed practices, and strength-based strategies to help clients manage stress, improve communication, and build effective coping skills. I also incorporate creative approaches such as art and music when helpful, particularly with teens. I work with individuals from all walks of life and offer culturally responsive care. As a clinician with Caribbean roots, I’m especially mindful of how identity, culture, and generational experiences can shape mental health. My goal is to help you feel supported, respected, and empowered as we work together toward clarity and emotional well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients often describe working with me as supportive, steady, and practical. I offer a nonjudgmental space where you don’t have to have everything figured out. Whether you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to support your child or teen, we move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. I believe therapy works best when it’s collaborative and tailored to your needs. I balance empathy and understanding with clear guidance and tools you can actually use in daily life. My role is to help you better understand what’s going on, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop strategies that support real change. Above all, I aim to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and supported; a place where you can take a breath and focus on yourself without pressure or judgment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first few sessions focus on getting to know you; your concerns, goals, background, and what led you to seek therapy now. We’ll talk about what feels most pressing and what you hope to gain from our work together. For teens, I prioritize building trust and safety while also collaborating with parents as appropriate. Sessions are conversational and supportive, with time to reflect, explore emotions, and learn practical tools. Depending on your needs, we may focus on identifying thought patterns, developing coping skills, improving communication, managing stress, or navigating life transitions. I use evidence-based approaches and adjust sessions to fit your goals and comfort level. Therapy with me is not one-size-fits-all. We regularly check in about what’s working and make adjustments as needed, ensuring the process feels meaningful, supportive, and aligned with your growth.
