What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe in having open, clear communication with my clients. I practice active listening and will give you a space to reflect on your experiences in a nonjudgmental, safe place to express yourself in the way you need to express your feelings. If we come across a topic that you're not quite ready to discuss, I ask that you inform me, and we will plan to explore a time that is better for you. Because sometimes we learn that we have to address one thing before we can heal another thing. As long as I can remember, I have had a natural passion for helping people. God has truly guided my footsteps into the counseling field. While I was in school to become an educator, I was a work-study student working in the counseling department at my university. I have always been connected to the counseling world, long before I knew God was grooming me to become a counselor. Each and every assignment for my life has been intentional for the purpose of guiding me to become a counselor. I find true joy in helping others inspire change, purpose, and direction in their world. I believe that therapy is a partnership between the client and the therapist built on trust and communication about the client's needs and desires that they inspire to achieve. I will be accountable for helping my clients to obtain their therapeutic goals. I challenge my clients to identify, initiate, and execute personal goals they would like to achieve to enhance their quality of life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session will give us an opportunity to get to know one another. We’ll discuss your background and what brings you to therapy. We may also discuss any assessments that you have completed to give you a better understanding of symptoms you may be experiencing. Therapy is a process, and we’ll continue to build our work together over time. It's normal to feel nervous about your first appointment, but I will do my best to make your first experience as comfortable as I can. We’ll take it one step at a time, and I’m here to guide you through each step of the process.
