Diane Cooper, LCSW

Psychotherapist
LA
Hi there, I'm Diane! Hello, my name is Diane Cooper. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and have been licensed since 2000. I earned my Master's in Social Work from Southern University at New Orleans and my Bachelor's degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. I have worked with a variety of clients facing different challenges. I believe in starting where the client is-that means understanding what someone is struggling with currently and beginning there. My approach I use a patient-centered approach. I believe we have to go where the client wants to go. Therapy is for the client, so I need to listen to them and explore the things that are important to them. My focus I prefer working with adults because I feel I can connect more with them. My clients often experience depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. My communication style I want my clients to feel safe. I am nonjudgmental and want them to be comfortable talking to me. That's not to say things don't get uncomfortable at times-they do-but I want them to know this is a safe place to say the things that need to be said. My journey to mental healthcare I found myself in the social work field even though that was not what my degree was originally in. I liked helping people, so I went back to school to get my MSW and then followed through with obtaining the LCSW designation. My goals for you I explore with the client what they would like to work on. I will make suggestions, but I want the goals to be their goals. My first session with you I will do some exploring to determine what the client's issues are and what they expect from therapy.
