Getting to know Diane McLeod

I specialize in brief collaborative therapy, where we focus on current issues, how you cope, how you learned those coping skills, and alternative solutions. We will also explore your self-care, including spirituality, and how to improve it if needed. Weekly assignment tasks related to your short-term goals will be agreed upon. Together, we will learn and understand where you are now and how the past has impacted you. Engaging in therapy can be anxiety-provoking, exciting, and freeing. If you are willing to work on our mutually agreed-upon assignments between sessions, you will find we make progress. I earned my Master's in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University. Before becoming licensed in Michigan, where I grew up and studied, I worked in criminal justice. After moving to Chicagoland, I spent 10 years with a crisis response team and an employee assistance program. This experience helped me develop skills to drill down into client issues and work collaboratively to reduce discomfort and improve coping skills. Our counseling sessions typically did not last beyond 6-8 meetings. Since moving to Texas in 2003, I have continued working on crisis teams and with military members and spouses on installations. My practice focuses on supporting couples' communication; life transitions including grief/loss, career changes, and parenting skills; and integrating clients' spiritual practices into everyday life. Clients describe me as safe to talk with about difficult topics, active and contributing to the dialogue, and creative in opening up behavioral and cognitive options.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The client can expect the first session to be about gathering background information and an understanding of the current issues. We will discuss your mind, body, spirit health to help stabilize your current functioning. Each session we will catch up on your life/issues since our last meeting; discuss the challenges/successes with the last assignment and discuss the next assignment along with rescheduling needs. We may meet weekly then move to every other week until we move into check-up and maintenance. We will determine the frequency interval together.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
