Psychotherapist
AZ
Hi there, I'm Donna! Welcome to therapy, or welcome back! Do you need a neutral perspective on yourself, your relationships, or something that's going on in your life? Would you like to talk about your problems with a stranger who won't spill your secrets? I'm here to provide compassion, empathy, and accountability, and to help you map out a path to your best self. My approach While we can talk the whole time if that works best for you, I enjoy incorporating activities into therapy. This might include breathing techniques, meditation, art exercises, and practicing healthy coping skills. When it comes to treatment types, my primary tool is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which focuses on mindfulness and values. My focus "Problem: noun 1. a matter or situation regarded as unwelcome or harmful and needing to be dealt with and overcome." I became a social worker because I love helping people solve problems. I have experience with depression, anxiety, substance misuse, domestic violence, and issues related to LGBTQ+ identity. I love working with teens! My communication style While validating feelings is important, I also like to help people understand that the trigger isn't the problem - the response to it is. How can you adapt and meet your own needs when others are behaving badly, since you can't change them - only yourself? How can you achieve your goals despite obstacles? How can you meet challenges with grace? My journey to mental healthcare My guiding value is being of service. I had a rough time when I was a teenager and young adult, and I have navigated depression and anxiety. I didn't get the support I needed until I was older, so I became passionate about becoming a helper so that there's at least one more person in the world providing a safe space and solutions.
