Getting to know Donna Cavalluzzi

I work with adults and adolescents struggling with the pain and challenges of the stressors that come with life. I provide a safe space and warm environment that allows you to engage with me in your process of change. My treatment approach is based on your individual needs, concentrating in psychodynamic and relational psychotherapy. However, going beyond technique and theory is what makes therapy work—it is the realm of the trusting relationship, the ongoing human to human connection that provides the foundation for change. Change can be difficult, whether positive or negative, and therapy invites you to sit with your emotions and tackle the obstacles that may be hindering your growth. I use an integrative approach to understand your life experiences and how they are affecting your present functioning. Without a therapeutic relationship, there is no therapy. I combine empathy with humor to help you feel comfortable and bring a humanistic approach into the room. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from New York University and a Certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the New York University Institute for Psychoanalytic Education. Note: I do not accept insurance, but I will provide you with a monthly invoice if you have out-of-network benefits. You can submit the invoice to your insurance company to be reimbursed at their rate.

Donna is a wonderful person and a true professional. I’ve been seeing her weekly since September and she’s helped me get through a pretty tough time. Can’t recommend her enough to anyone who is currently in a bad place and wants to get better.
I felt comfortable with Donna from day 1. She puts me at ease has been helping me through a very difficult time in an extremely thoughtful and caring way.
I have been seeing Donna for several years and find her to be exceptionally good at her profession. She frequently provides valuable insight, comfort and advice to me, and has helped me understand and control what used to be unmanageable anxiety.
I couldn't recommend Donna & her mental health counseling more. She has a warm, friendly demeanor and a non-judgmental style that fosters an open, safe environment to work through any challenges you may be facing. I saw Donna weekly from March 2020 until January 2022, and I consistently felt respected and heard as we worked through the grief of my father's terminal diagnosis and death together. She quickly identified the method that would work best for me and I always looked forward to our sessions (no matter how difficult!). Without a doubt I'm a better person because of our sessions - I hope everyone who is struggling finds their Donna.
When I first walked in that office all those years ago I was a broken woman. My depression was so heavy I felt it on my shoulders, I felt it in my heart. It was like a dark cloud was constantly following me. I didn't know who I was and what I felt and I didn't want to be around anymore. I was just so empty. Donna changed my life. It has taken me a while to write this review because when she told me she was leaving the counseling services to focus on her own, I knew that the true test would begin for me. Will I crumble with every new challenge that comes my way? Or will I put into practice what Donna has taught me. Facing the world without her made me a little worried but I knew that I will make it because Donna's voice will always be with me. Its been a little over a month now and I can proudly say that I am still standing, I am still focused and I am still here. How do I tell strangers that Donna showed me how to look my fears and doubts right in the eyes and say you no longer have control over me. I have done so many amazing things because Of Donna. I went to Jamaica, I went to improv classes (almost threw up at one point but I did it!), I have begun to write a novel! So many things that I didn't believe I could do! "Dion you may be afraid....but do it anyway" But what if I fail, I would ask and I will never forget what she said "Dion, what if you succeed?" There isn't enough words on this earth that would fully explain my gratitude. Thank you for letting me be me in our sessions, for letting me cry over the most ridiculous things (lol) and always encouraging me to be my best self....even when I didn't see her in me sometimes. I know I will be alright because since our last session there have been triggers, moments of sadness that would sneak above like a small rain cloud over me. Not only do I know what to do when that happens, I can actually say I am no longer afraid of that small cloud. I face it, right in the eyes...I know to no longer hide away and allow it to consume me but to reach out to a friend and talk it out, to go for a walk, to write it down, anything positive that would send that depression packing. Then I am better, stronger, ready to face any other cloud that might try to come. Instead of focusing on the rain, I learned how see the sun right behind waiting to shine on me again. Thank you Donna. I will never forget you for teaching me how to love myself. Thank you saving my life.
Donna is a wonderful therapist and I feel truly lucky to have found her. She's genuinely empathetic and listens without judgement. She helped me identify and reflect on patterns in my thinking and behavior, and we explored how and why those patterns persisted. Mostly importantly she helped me reframe and overcome a lot of the patterns that were holding me back. I highly recommend Donna to anyone who is feeling stuck or depressed and who needs a deeply kind, smart, and skilled therapist.
Donna was exactly the therapist I was looking for. Wildly empathetic, super helpful and able to help me re-frame ideas and patterns that were getting in my way. She was also flexible with scheduling when unexpected events came up. In short, she's a gem and you will likely love working with her.
Donna is an excellent therapist. I came to her in a time of need, but now see her ongoing even as life has calmed down. I love that Donna gives me just a few tools or tips to focus on in each session - making my progress feel manageable and attainable. Highly recommend!
I have been seeing Donna for almost a year, and from the moment I walked through her doors, I knew I found my therapist! Donna is welcoming, warm and really takes the time to get to know her patients so she can provide individualized care. The environment she creates is warm and safe. It’s so very clear that she cares and genuinely wants to help, which is backed up with her competence, empathy, and comprehensive knowledge. Donna asks thoughtful questions, fosters trust (which doesn’t come easy for me) and she is very easy to talk to. She gives space for the exploration of feelings in a non-judgmental way and has allowed me to express whatever feelings and thoughts come up; she offers insightful feedback. Her kind demeanor and compassionate personality make uncomfortable conversations manageable…and that has been essential for my growth and change. Donna helps me to conceptualize areas in my life that we need to work on. I say “we” because I know Donna is on my team, fully supporting me. Now, during this time of pandemic, Donna has been a steady and calm presence for me when anxiety is running high. She navigates this uncharted territory that we are all in with compassion, skill and kindness. If you want a personable, competent and qualified therapist to come along side you, look no further. This is what a therapist and therapy should be…you will be in very good hands! On a side note: I had an issue getting my out-of-network insurance reimbursement (problem on the insurance company's end), and Donna spent hours helping to resolve the issue. What therapist does that? Donna spent the time intervening and advocating for me with an insurance company when it was THEIR error, not hers!! If it weren't for her, I'd still be getting the run around. Thank you Donna!!!
My experience with Donna was amazing. She is very easy to open up to and build a relationship with. I always felt she took the time to tailor her approach to my specific needs. She helped me grow and move on in many different areas of my life. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to improve their wellbeing. For anyone seeking out therapy for the first time she is understanding, non-judgmental, warm and makes the process seamless. Starting out I was afraid of committing to therapy regularly but I found myself looking forward to our meetings.

Dr. Cavalluzzi has been a pleasure to work with. Professional and effective in her methods of practice. Definitely recommended.
Having difficulty in the past to find the right therapist, Donna made it very easy for me on the first session. I always look forward to my meetings with her; she has a very kind and warm demeanor. She's an excellent listener and gives feedback throughout our sessions together. I highly recommend her!
My daughter ( 17 yrs.), husband and I have been seeing Donna Cavalluzzi for almost a year now. She has been and continues to be a great support system for our family. We feel comfortable discussing anything, we never feel judged. She is a great listener and helps our family navigate the ups and downs that life presents. Sometimes you just need someone neutral and objective to shed light, and offer different perspectives. She offers great insight and intelligence and is clearly well versed in therapeutic practice. It’s difficult to find a great therapist, where the chemistry feels just right. Donna Cavalluzzi is an outstanding therapist. We recommend her highly to anyone looking for outside support.
I like meeting with Donna. I feel very comfortable talking with her and on our first meeting she made sure I was comfortable and wanted to continue to see her.
