What should a new client know about working with you?

When you begin therapy with me, you can expect a compassionate, non-judgmental, and practical environment. I view our relationship as a collaboration where you are the expert on your life, and I am your guide, offering focused tools and insights. My approach is dedicated to the integration of the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. We will look beyond surface symptoms to understand how stress affects your body, how past events influence your present, and how your personal values (including faith, for those utilizing Catholic/Christian counseling) can actively support your healing process. Our sessions are active and goal-oriented. I don't just listen; I teach. We will utilize evidence-based strategies from CBT for practical thought management and DBT for mastering emotional regulation. You'll leave sessions with concrete tools you can apply right away. For clients who have experienced trauma, I offer EMDR (Level 1) in a safe, incremental manner. We prioritize building a foundation of stability and trust first, ensuring you always feel in control before moving into deeper processing work. Our first few sessions will focus on a thorough assessment and establishing clear, measurable goals. We'll define what success looks like for you, whether it’s reducing anxiety, improving communication, or finding peace after a difficult event. I look forward to meeting you and starting this focused, collaborative journey toward lasting resilience

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is designed to move purposefully from understanding your history to building lasting skills and resilience. Assessment and Goal Setting (First 1-3 Sessions) We start with an in-depth conversation about your history, current challenges (such as anxiety or trauma), strengths, and values (including your faith, if applicable). We will collaborate to set clear, measurable goals for our work together. This ensures our sessions are focused and aligned with what you truly want to achieve. The most important step is establishing a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship. A Typical Session: A standard 50-minute session is usually structured to be active and skill-focused. We begin with a check-in to discuss the week and review any tools practiced at home. We dedicate the main portion of the session to applying specific techniques. For example, we might practice DBT skills for emotional regulation, challenge negative thought patterns using CBT, or begin guided work for trauma processing using EMDR (Level 1), always at your pace. I often assign brief, practical actions or exercises for the week. Therapy is most effective when the skills are practiced between sessions. As you meet your goals, sessions become less frequent. The focus shifts to reviewing your progress, troubleshooting future challenges, and ensuring you have a strong, personalized toolkit to maintain your well-being independently. In summary, you can expect an engaged session where we talk, learn skills, and actively work toward your goals together.
