Getting to know Dorothy Weiss-Gerber
Life is full of challenging twists and turns, and no one deserves to feel shame in identifying their need for help and guidance along the way. I believe that healing begins in a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment in which you feel truly seen, heard, and affirmed. I strive to create a collaborative environment where my clients trust that they can openly communicate with me. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, and I believe that each individual is the expert of their own lives and lived experiences. I tailor a unique approach for each client, focused on addressing underlying trauma, and addressing the immediate issues that are a result of those challenges. My goal is to focus on long-term solutions while empowering you with individualized, effective strategies that you can use to navigate your life with confidence and self-awareness.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I am a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) who holds a Bachelors in Applied Psychology from SUNY Farmingdale and a Masters from Stony Brook University. I have experience working with individuals from all walks of life with a variety of mental health diagnoses. From providing in-home therapy to at-risk adolescents and transition-aged youth to adults experiencing depression, anxiety, suicidality, and addiction, I strive to understand each client as more than their diagnosis using a person-centered approach. Additionally, through my use of the strengths-based approach, I aim to help clients identify and build upon their existing strengths to effectively and confidently navigate the unexpected ups and downs in life.

Dorothy , was amazing the from start when we did our phone assessment .
I recently completed a residential rehabilitation program for substance abuse in 2/2026 and I myself am a nurse and come have an extensive background in mental health .
When I first spoke with Dorothy on the phone for the initial assessment to ensure that she could meet my needs I had no expectations and everything just flowed naturally. The phone conversation was 51mins which is huge and exemplifies her patience and listening skills.
Dorothy’s listening skills , empathy and bedside manner were remarkable. The session with Dorothy my first experience with individual therapy I knew she was she was the perfect fit for me and could meet and address my needs with my issues with trauma and substance abuse the moment that we spoke. I highly recommend Dorothy for any Psychological services that are needed. 10 stars across the board .

Dorothy was the BEST therapist | have ever had and I have been in therapy for over 30 years. She gave me coping skills to use in my daily routine. Dorothy also helped me to remain sober which was a huge help. I can not say enough great things about her and her service to me. I was suicidal at one point, and she literally saved my life.
