Getting to know Douglas (Bryant) Srour

Sometimes life can be very stressful due to a variety of barriers. Things like anxiety, depression, or grief can interrupt our lives and lead to despair. Oftentimes, as humans, we have this feeling that we are alone in this despair and that nobody can help us. Negative thoughts and feelings about ourselves can lead to poor self-esteem and isolation from those we love, as well as difficulties in our relationships and priorities, from school to career. I believe we as humans all have the capacity to achieve our goals and transform into the best version of ourselves, and therapy can be the first step to achieving these goals! My name is Bryant, and I am a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Pace University. I specialize in treating anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and trauma, among a variety of other conditions. I have completed advanced certificates in Motivational Interviewing to address substance abuse, as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy to address issues with emotion regulation. Life can appear stressful and scary at times, but it does not have to overwhelm you any longer. Taking the first step to begin therapy can be the path to recovery and gaining control of your life once again. I provide a warm and inviting environment for clients to feel listened to, understood, and respected. You are in control of your future, and that future starts now. The provider is a “Licensed Professional Counselor" and their license number is 37PC01193000.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a person-centered psychotherapist, which places increased focus and attention on the relationship between patient and therapist and ensuring a warm, non-judgemental and supportive environment for growth to begin. I also embrace cognitive-behavioral and trauma-informed therapeutic approaches to assist patients in identifying and changing negative thinking, improving the ability to regulate emotions, improve and achieve behavior-change. I provide the necessary structure and space for patients to gain insight and awareness to work towards the therapeutic goals my patients desire.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The initial evaluation session consists of diagnosis and treatment planning to identify and structure the framework of therapy. Subsequent therapy sessions are structured to achieve therapy goals agreed upon with the patient with built in flexibility to bring any topics or recent concerns into a session.

I have been working with this practitioner for the last two months and have already seen progress in myself that I was never able to achieve with clinics/practitioners that I have been associated with in the past. Finally I feel confident that I might actually be able to heal myself and achieve the goals that seemed so out of range mere weeks ago. Not only am I discovering new ways of thinking and processing, but I am also able to acknowledge when I am making a healthier decision than what might have been my baseline in the past. Before meeting with Bryant, I often lamented to close friends and family that even though I knew I “needed” therapy, I hated it. And often found myself skipping appointments regularly. I’ve come a long way since then; I didn’t know therapy could feel so palatable. I enjoy Bryant’s insight and compassion, and look forward to continuing to working with him on my healing journey.
Bryant has a cool and calm demeanor which provides for a comfortable environment to allow for seeing things from different perspectives. He has helped me strive to become stronger and live a more fulfilling life. Highly recommended.
Bryant has not only helped me with my anxiety-induced problems, but he has helped me to understand why I think the way I do and it has reformed the way I approach situations. Bryant has left me feeling so much better in 4 months of time!
Bryant is brilliant, my child just started seeing him and his approach and technique’s are very effective. I look forward continuing to work with him.
