What should a new client know about working with you?

As a highly seasoned therapist, I have learned that an integrative approach is not only preferred but the only way to truly help people. One size does not fit all. Only by selecting from multiple counseling frameworks and applying a tailored helping approach can counseling be truly effective. And the ability to successfully accomplish this is a product of experience and time. I work successfully with Asian individuals who contend with acculturation and family trauma issues, complicated grief and loss experiences, and also chronic illnesses. Two niches and very special interests of mine are to help those who are considering a new direction in life such as a career change or relocation and neurodivergent individuals. I utilize an integrative approach in helping my clients successfully heal and thrive.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We will begin with an initial intake session, a casual meeting to review the information you provided prior to the initial meeting. We will then continue to gain more insight into you and your concerns by examining the presenting issues and by obtaining a "big picture" of your life (with certainty our past impacts our present). You are your story's author. And it is a very important story for us understand. Only from here can we arrive at the answers you seek. Once we have your story, we will begin to understand how it continues to guide your decisions in life, identify any existing negative patterns, and work towards changing those patterns. In my many years experience of working with people from all walks of life is that we are creatures of habit: we what we were taught, what we observe, what we are/were exposed to. And these habits are often not in conscious awareness but must be identified in order to effect change. And if identified patterns already exist, we will work together to understand and change these patterns. How these habits and patterns are changed are unique to the individual and will be explored and then applied in the process of therapy.
