Ebony Strachan, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
Hi there, I'm Ebony! I'm happy you found your way here. Sometimes you don’t need someone to tell you what to do. You need a space to slow things down, feel understood, and make sense of what you’ve been carrying. I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with experience in forensic mental health, foster care, and outpatient counseling with youth, adults, and families. My approach is warm, humanistic, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based care. I’m interested in more than what brought you to therapy. I want to understand you, what has shaped you, and what you need in this season of your life. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, relationships, trauma, motherhood, life transitions, or simply feeling like everything seems “fine” but doesn’t quite feel fine, there is room for it here. If faith is meaningful to you, we can make room for that too.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is active and intentional. I’ll listen, but I’ll also ask questions, help you notice patterns, and gently challenge you when it may be helpful. Some sessions may focus on understanding what’s underneath what you’re feeling, while others may be more practical and focused on what you can do differently moving forward. I don’t expect you to have all the answers, but I do ask that you come willing to be curious, honest, and engaged in the process. We’ll work at a pace that feels manageable while still making room for growth. My goal is for what we do in session to translate into meaningful changes in your everyday life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first few sessions are about getting to know you and understanding what’s bringing you in, what’s been happening around you, and what you’d like to be different. From there, we’ll identify goals together and regularly check in on what’s helping, what isn’t, and what may need to shift. With adults, sessions are collaborative and shaped by what you need that day while still keeping your larger goals in view. We may spend time making connections, practicing new skills, exploring patterns, or figuring out how to approach something happening in your life right now. With children and teens, I adjust the process to their age and developmental needs. Therapy may include conversation, activities, creative exercises, and skill-building to help them express themselves in ways that feel natural. Parents and caregivers are included when appropriate so we can better understand what’s happening outside of sessions and support progress at home, while still giving young people a therapeutic space that feels like their own.
