Ebony Strachan, MA, LMHC

At High Water Mental Health Counseling, we believe meaningful change begins with understanding, not judgment. Our philosophy is rooted in curiosity before change. Rather than focusing only on reducing symptoms, we help clients understand what they are feeling, where patterns may have developed, what those patterns may have been protecting, and whether they still serve them today. Our work is guided by the NIP, “Nip It at the Root,” Narrative Replacement Model, a framework developed by the Founder, Ebony Strachan, LMHC, to help clients move beyond simply managing what shows up on the surface. We slow things down and explore the narratives connected to an experience, the impact those experiences have had internally and in everyday life, and the permission needed to respond differently. Sometimes that means permission to feel or sit with something. Other times, it means recognizing that you are ready to release, replace, or move beyond a pattern that once helped you survive. Work at High Water draw from faith-based principles, CBT, ACT, DBT skills, mindfulness, somatic awareness, compassionate inquiry, and IFS-informed parts work. We believe therapy should be responsive to the person in front of us, so these approaches are thoughtfully integrated rather than applied as a one-size-fits-all formula. A point of distinction at High Water is that we don’t rush to change a behavior before becoming curious about it. Awareness creates choice. Once we understand the root, we can begin developing new ways of thinking, responding, relating, and caring for ourselves that better reflect who we are becoming. For clients who want faith to be part of their care, faith-informed and Christian perspectives can also be integrated while honoring each person’s beliefs, values, and autonomy. Reflect. Release. Reconnect. A place to breathe, be seen, and find your way back to yourself.
