Psychotherapist
AK
Hi there, I'm Edmore! My name is Edmore (Ed) Mangena, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Alaska. I have practiced in Alaska since 2006 and I have worked with all ages, children and families, individuals, and couples. I use an integrated approach to therapy that is anchored in Cognitive Behavior Therapy. I use person centered therapy for its emphasis on relationship and existential therapy for its supportive approach. I believe providing clients with a supportive non-judgmental space enables them to workout their issues to resolution or to clarity. My approach I use an integrated approach to therapy that includes Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, and Existential Therapy. There are other approaches that I have lately incorporated in my approach bank and these include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). My focus I work with adolescents and adults mostly dealing with general psychopathologies and mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, and traumatic stress issues. I like working with couples struggling with marital issues or relationships in general. I also work with clients struggling with substance use issues. My communication style If you know anything about Client/Person centered approach, it helps me create a great working environment for my clients. I have a laid back approach in which I listen to my clients and validate their feelings. However I challenge my clients to see some of the unhealthy ways of thinking that could be exacerbating their problems. Part of my sessions are spent in psycho education because I believe that knowledge of one’s condition helps in resolving their issues. My journey to mental healthcare I have worked as an educator and as a spiritual guide, and I still do. I am fascinated by human transformation and growth. So I went to school to pursue a Masters in Community Mental Health Counseling and started practicing in 2005.
