Getting to know Edna Wiley

Edna Wiley is supervised by Jennifer Kendall, Ph.D., LMFT-S (#203322). My philosophy concerning relationships is founded on the concept that loving and emotional connections with others are essential aspects of our overall well-being. Therefore, my sincere passion is to help foster loving, healthy, and happier marriages and relationships. I work to help couples reconnect and communicate in a respectful, enlightening, and loving way. I earned my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas Woman’s University, where I truly developed a passion for working with couples. I also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from The University of Texas at Arlington. Before beginning my journey to becoming a therapist, I spent many years working in finance. But something was missing, so I made the decision to switch careers. I believe having a background in the corporate world helps me understand the struggles many of my professional clients face. My focus is helping clients build positive relationships by implementing research-based methods, such as Cognitive Behavioral and Emotionally Focused strategies, that inspire hope and motivate commitment to the process of change. I take pleasure in serving my clients and delight in the opportunity to play a small role in the overall success of marriages and relationships. In addition to my work as a therapist, I serve in various ministries at my local church, including Couples Ministry, and am a certified Marriage Mentor.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you begin working with me, the first thing you should know is that our sessions are designed to be a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space. You're encouraged to speak your mind, knowing your trust and privacy are held in the highest regard. Our therapeutic journey is a collaborative one; I believe in forming a partnership with you, setting mutual goals, and determining the strategies that cater to your unique needs. I approach therapy with a holistic perspective, aiming to understand not just a singular issue, but the whole person encompassing mind, body, and spirit. To ensure the highest standard of care, I utilize evidence-based methods that have a strong backing in research. Open dialogue is essential, so I always welcome feedback about our sessions. At times, I might suggest specific exercises or readings to complement our discussions. Remember, your commitment to this process plays a crucial role in the progress we can make together. While we strive for consistency, I also appreciate that life can be unpredictable, so I'm always ready to be as accommodating as possible with our schedule. Above all, I deeply respect and value all individuals, regardless of race, gender, religion, or background. And as we navigate through this journey, know that reaching your goals and eventually concluding our sessions is a natural part of the therapeutic process, ensuring you're well-equipped to move forward with confidence.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The process begins when you schedule your first appointment. Once you have requested the appointment, someone from our office will contact you to confirm your information and send you the new patient paperwork. Once that is complete, your therapist will contact you to introduce themselves and answer any questions you may have before your first appointment. During your first visit, you and your therapist will get to know one another and create a tailored plan for reaching your goals. At the end of the first session, you and your therapist will discuss how often to meet and set up your next appointment. Following your initial session, subsequent appointments will delve deeper into the topics and areas you've chosen to explore, using therapeutic methods tailored to your unique needs. Our approach is collaborative; your feedback and comfort are paramount. Regular check-ins during the course of therapy ensure that the sessions remain aligned with your evolving goals and needs. Throughout the therapeutic journey, we also provide resources, exercises, and readings when appropriate, ensuring you feel supported both inside and outside our sessions. As progress is made, you and your therapist will collaboratively reassess goals and the frequency of meetings, ensuring that you always receive the care and support that's best for you.
