Getting to know Edward Koslowsky

Edward Koslowsky is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I'm here to help you start making changes to your life. Changes in what you're doing and what you're focusing on, changes in how you feel, improving your relationships. My role is to join with you, to understand your experience and what you're going through, and to provide guidance and support as we start to make those changes. I incorporate elements of mindfulness and self-compassion to help my clients develop a better relationship with themselves and their lives. And I use EMDR to help to work through and alleviate past traumatic experiences. Helping clients to work through trauma is a central therapeutic interest for me. That can be scary, but it is also deeply impactful to come to resolution with these difficult experiences.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the first session we'll be talking about what brings you in, current challenges, and how I can best be of help. Next we'll look at various areas of your life, from early life and upbringing to what is present now, from relationships and support system to medical issues and physical health. I encourage clients to check in with themselves and to notice how they are feeling and reacting to what we are doing. I often introduce mindfulness activities to clients who could benefit. I provide education on big-T and little-t traumatic events and how all traumatic events are stored maladaptively in the brain. For clients who would like to go forward with EMDR I guide them through the model, choosing memories to work on and using EMDR to desensitize and reprocess those memories. A memory is considered completed once the client is able to think about that memory while feeling calm and relaxed in their body, with no activation or tension in the body at all. This can be a transformative experience, and can have profound effects on how you see yourself and how you interact with your world.
