Getting to know Elaine Ahmad

My name is Elaine Ahmad (she/her), and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with more than twenty years of experience practicing in the Los Angeles area. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley. I offer in-person counseling to those who live locally and virtual counseling across California. I identify as someone within the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities and have worked with these populations throughout my career as a therapist. My approach I believe counseling can help people become the best version of themselves in their personal, professional, and relationship goals. I work from a strength-based perspective and utilize an eclectic mix of evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, along with aspects of narrative therapy and depth psychology (dream work). Every client is different, so I tailor my approach to each client’s specific needs and goals. My focus I am particularly drawn to working with teens and adults dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, and phase-of-life issues. I have spent many years working with people facing health concerns and new medical diagnoses. I also support caregivers experiencing caregiver stress. My communication style I believe open, honest communication is crucial in building a strong therapeutic relationship. I ask my clients how they feel about each counseling session and request feedback on what worked and what we could do differently to ensure I am meeting their expectations. I strive to create a warm, calming, empathic therapeutic environment and welcome both tears and laughter along the way.
