Dr. Elaine Foster, PhD, ABPP

Psychotherapist
NM
I am a board-certified clinical psychologist and prescribing psychologist licensed in New Mexico and Texas. I have more than 30 years of clinical experience, including over two decades of service as an Air Force psychologist. My practice, PsyConOps, specializes in independent psychological evaluations. I have particular experience with Benefits Delivered Before Discharge (BDD) evaluations and VA disability and service-connected disability psychological evaluations. My background includes work with complex cases involving trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, military sexual trauma, and questions of diagnostic clarification and functional impairment. I also provide psychological evaluations for occupational and public-safety purposes, including New Mexico Level III security guard evaluations. My approach is thorough, evidence-based, and independent. I carefully review available records, clinical history, current symptoms, and relevant life and service experiences before reaching an opinion. My role is not to advocate for a predetermined outcome, but to provide a well-supported professional evaluation that evaluees can use in making decisions about their VA benefits or occupational requirements. I also provide psychotherapy and medication management in New Mexico on a limited basis, but psychological evaluation is the primary focus of my practice.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a disabled veteran. I'm also a retired Air Force psychologist, which means my career has always been service-oriented. I will work with you to support your goals as best I can, but if I believe I'm not a good fit, I will be upfront and let you know. Most importantly, I want to help my fellow veterans get the services they deserve.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is structured, thorough, and collaborative. When we begin, we start with a comprehensive review of your clinical history, medical records, and relevant service documents. During our evaluation sessions, we will discuss your current symptoms and life experiences in a supportive, objective environment. My goal is to ensure you feel heard and understood while I gather the clinical data needed to provide a well-supported, independent evaluation that you can use confidently for your benefits or occupational requirements.
