Getting to know Elise Hernandez

I DO NOT ACCEPT INSURANCE AT THIS TIME *Can provide superbills if your insurance reimburses you for out-of-network providers. It can be difficult to navigate change, relationships, and life in general, especially in today's world. We may feel alone, hopeless, or overwhelmed. We may just feel unlike ourselves and not know how we got there. Together, we can explore what is coming up for you in order to understand the root issues. With awareness can come acceptance or meaningful change. I will create a safe environment where you are seen and heard and a strong therapeutic relationship can grow. Wanting better for ourselves takes strength, and having someone in your corner through that process can help. You are in charge; you have the answers, and I'm here to find them with you. I am an Associate Marriage & Family Therapist (#130907), practicing under the supervision of Dr. Vanessa Isetta, PsyD (PSY20941). I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and a Bachelor's degree from San Francisco State University. I am currently employed at Isetta Psychotherapy Inc.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that creating a sense of safety, trust, warmth, and comfortability are essential to a strong and successful therapeutic relationship in which you can regain control and hope. We will work together to figure out what you need, explore and understand deeper parts of yourself, and bring awareness that can facilitate change or growth. I primarily work from a psychodynamic lens and will help you make important connections between significant past experiences and current issues that you may not be consciously aware of. I also pull from a wide range of other modalities such as CBT or DBT depending on each unique person's needs and what tools may be used to better suit them. As an analytically minded person myself, I enjoy helping over-thinkers process emotions in a new and meaningful way.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes and we meet once per week. When we first meet, we will just focus on getting to know each other and what you have going on. We will work on figuring out goals for treatment together and check in about progress and changes as we go. A typical session will involve me holding space for you to speak freely about whatever is on your mind - free of judgement or expectations. I find that no matter how random or off-topic a conversation may seem, we will probably find that it connects to something larger!
