Getting to know Elisha Marie Odegard

Are you struggling with substance use? Maybe you're still wondering whether or not your substance use is a problem? Together you and I can figure out what your substance use goals are (reducing damage, decreasing frequency, sobriety, etc.) and make an actionable plan to help you reach that goal. Then, I can help you gain a better understanding of what leads to self-medicating in the first place to help you gain control over it.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work mainly with two types of clients: couples and people struggling with substance use. I believe that effective therapy starts with really good information-gathering. I utilize the first session and possibly even the second to better understand you as an individual so that I can start to outline what will be most helpful. For substance use clients, we will go through several steps: assessing readiness to change, identifying values, weighing pros and cons, developing a sobriety action plan, and then understanding and addressing the roots of the substance use issue. For couples, I use an approach called EFT. This is an evidence-based approach that includes mapping out a cycle of your interactions and learning how to change it.
