Elizabeth Bishop, LPCC

Elizabeth Bishop, LPCC

Psychotherapist
OH
I specialize in trauma therapy for adults who appear high-functioning on the outside but feel overwhelmed, stuck, or exhausted on the inside. Many of my clients are professionals, caregivers, and high achievers who have learned to “push through” but are ready for deeper healing. I am trained in EMDR and Brainspotting, evidence-based trauma therapies that help process painful experiences at the root rather than just managing symptoms. I also offer extended sessions and trauma intensives for clients who want to make meaningful progress in a focused timeframe. My approach is warm, collaborative, and structured. I value creating a safe, grounded space where clients feel understood while also having a clear direction for treatment. Sessions are offered virtually, allowing flexibility and privacy for busy adults.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients often tell me they appreciate that I balance compassion with clarity. I won’t just sit and nod — I help you understand what’s happening in your nervous system, why certain patterns keep repeating, and what we can do to shift them. I work especially well with adults who: • Struggle with unresolved trauma or complex trauma • Experience anxiety, emotional overwhelm, or burnout • Are high-achieving but feel internally stuck • Want deeper trauma processing rather than only coping skills I believe therapy should feel both safe and purposeful. We will move at a pace that respects your nervous system while still working toward meaningful change. Because trauma healing can feel vulnerable, I prioritize creating a steady, attuned environment. You do not need to “have it all figured out” before starting.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first sessions focus on understanding your history, current symptoms, and goals. We explore what feels most pressing while also identifying patterns that may stem from earlier experiences. Before beginning trauma processing (EMDR or Brainspotting), we build stabilization skills to ensure you feel resourced and supported. This may include nervous system regulation strategies, grounding tools, and identifying internal strengths. When appropriate, we begin structured trauma processing sessions. These sessions are active and focused, helping the brain reprocess unresolved experiences so they no longer carry the same emotional charge. For clients interested in intensives, we complete additional preparation and planning to ensure the format is a good fit. Throughout our work, we regularly assess progress and adjust treatment collaboratively.
