Getting to know Elizabeth DeAngelis

Hi, I’m Elizabeth DeAngelis, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in NYC. I hold an Ed.M. in Mental Health Counseling from Columbia University and a Master’s in Religion and Psychology from Union Theological Seminary. My goal is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for clients to process emotions and explore both past and present stressors. I specialize in helping individuals and couples understand how early attachment patterns and trauma impact their current relationships and emotional well-being. Together, we can work toward improving relationships, building self-compassion, healing from trauma, and developing skills to support a more fulfilling life. I believe a strong therapeutic alliance is at the heart of effective psychotherapy. I view therapy as a collaborative process—because it’s through relationships that healing happens. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space by offering an authentic and nonjudgmental approach. I encourage open feedback so we can work together to help you reach your goals. I also recognize the impact of sociopolitical contexts on mental health and welcome conversations around identity and lived experience as part of the healing process.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with anyone seeking deeper self-understanding and a more fulfilling life. While I welcome a diverse range of clients, I specialize in helping adults navigate past trauma, attachment issues, and repetitive patterns that persist despite self-awareness. I understand how we can understand something on a logical level, but still not emotionally be able to process and create meaningful change in our lives. I also offer sessions for couples looking to improve communication and explore how past attachment experiences influence their current relationship.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I primarily work from a psychodynamic framework, helping clients explore how past relationships and traumas shape inner experiences. I also integrate practical techniques to support emotional regulation, healthier thinking patterns, and effective problem-solving.In addition to my trauma and attachment training, I have a background in existential therapy. In addition to my Ed.M in mental health counseling I have an MA in religion and psychology from Union Theological Seminary, where I specialized in religious trauma and existential/spiritual concerns. Our first session will be an overview of your physical and mental health history. In addition, together we will also discuss your concerns, expectations, and goals in therapy.

Don’t see your insurance?

It’s common for mental health providers to be out-of-network. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage, so you may get partially reimbursed. Learn more

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Initial session: $200 for 55 minutes
Ongoing session: $150 for 45 minutes
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

I use Headway to manage my billing and admin work. Headway manages payments/insurance, however, in-network clients usually pay a $0-$30 copay. I also accept self-pay clients and out-of-pocket pricing is listed above. I understand psychotherapy is often not covered by insurance companies making it not economically accessible to majority of the American population. On of my goals as a psychotherapist is to offer accessible and high quality treatment to those who often do not have access to support. Therefore, I do offer sliding scale, when appropriate, and ask potential clients reach out so we can discuss your options. Please note I am currently not enrolled with Medicaid or Medicare at this time which means if your covered under these insurances I cannot see you under your insurance coverage.

E. DeAngelis has been a significant part of a fundamental shift in my emotional and mental well-being. E. DeAngelis is easy to talk to and was always positive and encouraging. From the first session she helped identify both key issues and strategies to address them. E. DeAngelis helped put multiple issues into perspective, which made them feel more manageable. Through multiple sessions, I am better equipped in handling my mental health.
Ms DeAngelis is smart and caring. Her thorough understanding of people and the troubles we face and her ability to communicate her insights simply and clearly has been extremely helpful in my therapy. Her process has led to consistent progress for me enabling me to engage in parts of my life that were once out of reach. I'm a happier person today than I ever was as I'm better equipped to understand the emotions that drive me which enables me to make better decisions both personally and professionally.
