Getting to know Elizabeth Jacobo

My name is E. Penny Jacobo, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master's in Social Work from San Diego State University. I believe many of life's challenges can be managed by changing our own thoughts and perspectives. We are often more capable and powerful than we give ourselves credit for, and I aim to help others find and use their inner strength to solve their problems. My approach I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I begin by asking about the main problem, then explore the thoughts surrounding it. I work with clients to identify cognitive distortions and help change them. I also believe that pausing to be present in the moment is crucial for gaining insight into our lives and challenges. For those struggling with addiction, I focus on how addiction affects their lives, what changes they are ready to make, and support their unique journey toward the goals they choose. My focus I am most comfortable treating anxiety disorders, mood disorders including Major Depressive Disorder and Bipolar Disorders, trauma-related issues such as PTSD and dissociative symptoms, and postpartum issues including depression and anxiety in women. I primarily work with adults and older adults and do not treat teens or children. My communication style My priority is to create trust and safety in the therapeutic relationship by actively listening, summarizing what clients share, and being genuine and non-judgmental. My journey to therapy I believe some people are born to be helpers. Since I was about six years old, when my grandmother took me to church and I saw nuns helping others by providing food, I have been drawn to a profession where I can help. At first, I thought I wanted to be a nun, until I realized I simply wanted to help others.
