Elizabeth Lara, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NC
I’m Elizabeth Lara, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and owner of Parallax Counseling and Wellness Center. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Florida State University and provide online therapy in Florida, North Carolina, Texas, and Connecticut. I support adults struggling with trauma-related concerns, anxiety, and depression. Upon request, I can integrate Biblical/Christian principles into the therapeutic process. As a fellow human who has faced personal struggles, I understand the importance of having a safe therapeutic space where you feel heard, understood, and supported. I’ve had the honor of watching my clients transform their pain and defeat into power and triumph. My approach to therapy is collaborative and interactive. You will sit in the driver’s seat of your treatment while I provide a safe space and skillful support to help you navigate your personal challenges. My goal as your therapist is to help you gently peel back the layers, overcome internal struggles, and guide you as you do the work that offers lasting healing and change beyond your time in therapy with me. I understand that therapy can feel strange and even intimidating. It can be awkward and scary to share the most vulnerable parts of yourself with someone you’re meeting for the first time. One of my biggest priorities is to lay a foundation of safety and trust so you feel comfortable and relaxed in your sessions. Our alliance will be an integral part of treatment. I invite you to give therapy a try. As you commit to venturing inward on a process of healing and self-discovery, I will commit to showing up consistently as your therapist. Together, we will embark on a co-created journey guided by your unique needs, interests, and energy. Through this journey, my hope is for you to carry a new sense of freedom and empowerment to live your life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I will personalize your treatment to support you through your unique circumstance and address all aspects of your being- mind, body, and spirit. I use evidence-based approaches that guarantee results whilst integrating somatic interventions to help move out emotions trapped in your body. I recognize the intimate relationship between the body and the mind/psyche. Trauma, anxiety, and depression can manifest physically through nervous system dysregulation, body tension, headaches, gestational issues, etc. I strongly support treating the whole person and will explore with you additional resources that may be conducive to your wellness recovery efforts.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

At your first appointment, you will have the opportunity to tell your story, discuss current concerns, and start exploring treatment goals. I do a lot of information gathering as you share, and ask relevant questions to get a better understanding of you. The first few sessions are crucial to "getting the big picture" and gaining insight about your unique situation. I recommend that sessions be held weekly or bi-weekly to gain traction on progress towards your treatment goal and to find greater relief from whatever problem you may be facing. I integrate supportive talk therapy with evidence-based approaches. I'm not your typical "yes" and "how does that make you feel?" kind of therapist! I strongly believe in the power of trust and vulnerability, and equally believe in the power of accountability and consistency in making changes necessary in your life that will get you "unstuck".
