Getting to know Elizabeth McErlean

Welcome, I have been a practicing LCSW/Therapist for about 8 years. I have been working in social work for about 11 years from community health to child protective services. I live in the Raleigh/Durham, NC area, but spent most of my life in Southern Wisconsin. I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology and two graduate degrees, one in Criminal Justice and one in Social Work. I am licensed LCSW therapist in Wisconsin, Maine, North Carolina, and Virginia. I practice from a place of flexibility so I try to keep a couple slots open weekly, knowing sometimes things come up.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am primarily guided by the core values of social work in my practice and my lie. I am committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of life. I take a holistic approach, believing in the inherent goodness of people and their capacity for change. My practice is focused on empowering individuals to define and achieve their own goals, and I am genuinely invested in people’s lives and well-being, I strive to create a space where growth, healing, and transformation can flourish.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

What a typical session might look like is a conversation, but you primarily lead the way and I follow. There may be times I bring you back to something previously said, but other times it is about what may be going well and what you may be struggling with. Sessions are generally scheduled for an hour, but depending on the person, they can be 45 minutes or 30 minutes. I understand everyone has busy lives and the last thing I want therapy to be is another task you need to complete. As such, how often we meet depends on what is going on. In general, it is every couple of weeks to once a month.
