Getting to know Dr. Elizabeth Parr

Life can be difficult, at times, presenting challenges that seem overwhelming! While many people experience struggles, individuals who learn effective skills (i.e. communication, coping, conflict resolution) and become empowered through counseling can often experience emotional well-being once again! I would be honored to work with you, through the development of a supportive and trusting relationship, to unfold some of the concerns and issues you are experiencing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Utilizing evidence-based treatment interventions primarily from cognitive-behavior, solution-focused brief, and humanistic therapy modalities from a Christian perspective, I enjoy working with adult client/couples and young children experiencing a wide array of concerns related to anxiety, depression, interpersonal strife/discord, adjustment, and grief/loss. While I have extensive experience in the aforementioned areas, I specialize in the treatment of social-emotional behavior concerns of young children resulting from psychological, physical, and/or emotional abuse. Setting goals and objectives for therapy are developed collaboratively as we work together for change. Completing some brief paperwork early in the counseling process will let us know your current level of functioning (baseline). Completing similar paperwork later in the counseling process will let us know your level of progress (progress monitoring). I would be privileged to take this healing journey with you! Expanding your toolbox to effectively manage the trials of life can become a reality!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My typical process for working with clients involves a process. First, I will conduct a bio-psycho-social-spiritual assessment of your current concerns which involves listening to your story as well as what you have already tried to resolve your concerns. Follow-up questions are often asked as you share your issues in an effort to understand what you are experiencing and to build rapport with you. I want to truly understand your worldview and perceptions as much as I possibly can to identify the origin of problem/s. Once the root of the problem is identified, we will collaboratively develop appropriate goals and objectives to target. I will implement evidenced-based interventions (EBIIs) from the integration of treatment modality/modalities that are most effective in the treatment of your specific areas of concern (i.e. anxiety, depression, grief) according to research. Progress toward goals/objectives will be conducted every six to eight weeks to determine if goals and objectives warrant revision. You will be an integral part of the counseling process as you implement what is discussed in counseling sessions outside of therapy. I will support you during the process.
