Elizabeth Paul, LCSW, LICSW

Psychotherapist
NY
Hi, I’m Elizabeth Paul, LCSW, a psychotherapist specializing in trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and life transitions. I work with adults and couples navigating chronic stress, emotional overwhelm, family dynamics, burnout, self-esteem concerns, and the lasting effects of difficult experiences. My approach is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed, and insight-oriented. I integrate psychodynamic and attachment-based perspectives with evidence-based practices including EMDR therapy, tailoring treatment to each client’s individual needs and goals. Before entering private practice, I worked extensively with children, adolescents, and families in community mental health and child welfare settings, including supervising intensive trauma-focused programs in New York City. I strive to create a therapy space that feels thoughtful, grounded, nonjudgmental, and emotionally safe.

My approach is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed, and insight-oriented. I strive to create a therapy space that feels thoughtful, grounded, nonjudgmental, and emotionally safe.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is relational, thoughtful, and direct while remaining supportive and nonjudgmental. I pay attention not only to symptoms, but also to the deeper emotional patterns, relationships, and experiences that may be contributing to distress. Some clients come to therapy seeking support during a difficult period of life, while others are looking for deeper healing, insight, or long-term change. Therapy is tailored to each individual’s pace, goals, and needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first few sessions focus on understanding your concerns, history, relationships, strengths, and goals for therapy. Together, we identify patterns, clarify priorities, and develop an approach that feels supportive and sustainable. Sessions are collaborative and conversational, while also providing structure, reflection, coping strategies, and practical tools when helpful. For clients pursuing EMDR therapy, we begin by building safety, coping skills, and a strong therapeutic foundation before trauma reprocessing work begins.
