Elizabeth Porfert, LMHC

Psychotherapist
FL
Hello! I'm Liz. I am an LMHC, NCC. I earned my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University, Sarasota, in 2014. My recent roles have been Clinical Director for a local mental health hospital as well as Behavioral Health Director for the local sheriff's department. I also enjoy working with families in crisis. I have worked with families over the past 20 years in a variety of settings. I served the State of Florida as a Child Protective Investigator for five years. Before working with the Department of Children and Families, I was a Social Services Case Manager and Team Leader for the Department of Juvenile Justice. In Massachusetts, I worked as a teen parent social worker for the Department of Transitional Assistance, assisting teen parents in navigating the system to achieve economic self-sufficiency. After earning my BA, I was fortunate to work with a local non-profit to help at-risk, gang-influenced youth connect with social services and earn their General Equivalency Diploma. My professional goal is to assist individuals in recovering from negative self-talk and harmful messages sometimes instilled in childhood or prior relationships, helping patients build a healthier emotional quality of life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am dedicated to providing compassionate counseling services to individuals and families struggling with mental health issues. My goal is to empower our clients to achieve their personal and professional goals, and to improve their overall quality of life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I have been told by clients that sessions feel comfortable, and they feel easy to share difficult information. I am a no judgement zone. I have worked with several populations and feel that everyone should be able to share their thoughts freely, without concern of judgement. I have worked significantly with forensic populations and recognize how difficult it can be to get help.
