What should a new client know about working with you?

As a social worker, I consider it a privilege to walk alongside individuals and families during life’s twists and turns. My approach blends equal parts empathy, expertise, and a good sense of humor—because sometimes, laughter really is the best therapy. In my work, I’ve supported people through challenges big and small, always striving to be the steady presence they need when the waters get rough. In the realm of teletherapy, I’ve discovered how to make deep, authentic connections, even through a screen (bonus points for always knowing how to find the unmute button!). My toolbox includes evidence-based practices, cultural humility, and an endless supply of compassion. Whether I’m helping someone untangle anxiety, navigate a life transition, or just take a deep breath, I’m committed to creating a safe, judgment-free space where growth and healing can flourish. And if we share a laugh along the way, even better. I didn't go for my masters straight after I graduated college because kids came in the way (4 sons, if that didn't give me experience...), instead, when my youngest got on the school bus I did, too. I bring to the table over 35 years of social work practice, as well as the wisdom we all accumulate as we accumulate years. My youngest son (the one that last got on that bus) followed in his mom's footsteps and became a social worker as well, and we continue to compare how we deal with this ever complicated, evolving world. But, as he reminds me, what was important when I began my career remains equally important now, and that is "relationship, relationship, relationship". That's what you can most count on from me as we go together on this life journey, i.e. a safe and comfortable spot where our relationship will be the greatest factor in your healing process. I truly look forward to working with you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Going through therapy with a therapist can be a very beneficial experience for individuals who want to work through their mental health challenges and improve their overall well-being. Here are some steps you can take to make the most of your therapy experience: - Find the right therapist: The first step is to find a therapist who is a good fit for you. Look for someone who specializes in the type of issues you want to address and whose style matches your preferences. I hope I can be that person for you. -Set clear goals: It's important to have clear goals for therapy so that youand I are on the same page. In our first session, we will discuss your goals and work together to create a treatment plan that outlines the steps you will take to achieve those goals. - Try to be open and honest with me about your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I am here to help you, and I can only do so if I have a clear understanding of what's going on. - Trust the process: Therapy can be a long process, and it's important to trust that the work you're doing with me will pay off in the end. It's also important to be patient and not expect instant results. - Practice self-care: In addition to attending therapy sessions, it's important to practice self-care on a regular basis. This may include activities such as exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones. - Keep an open mind: Finally, it's important to keep an open mind and be willing to try new things. As your therapist, I may suggest different techniques or approaches that you haven't tried before, and it's important to be receptive to these suggestions. Remember, therapy is a collaborative process between you and me, so be sure to communicate your thoughts and concerns along the way. With the right mindset and a willingness to work, therapy can be a transformative experience that helps you achieve your goals and improve your quality of life.
